  Tomorrow my baby girls Lola and Bella are getting spayed and I’m really really nervous for them.
  
  I gave them a little taste of banana baby food today to see if they liked it so I would know if I could mix their medicine in with it later to get them to take it. Lola gobbled it down; Bella hasn’t touched it. Bella’s the little delicate princess and I’m most worried about her recovery
  
  My question is: They have a loft in their cage (I’ve been keeping them separate so only Lola will be in there while recovering, Bella will be in the spare cage that has no loft) that they love. I’m wondering if I should block it off with grids while Lola is recovering so she won’t jump up there and strain the incision area. I worry that if I block it off Lola will try and jump up there anyways and crash into the girds and hurt herself.

  When my Zero Bunny was spayed, she planted herself on the second floor of her bunny maze and stayed put, only coming out to use her litter box. She stayed in there for a couple days. I worried about the level, but she always prefers the 2nd floor of her maze. My thinking was that I wanted her to be where she was happiest and felt most comfortable. I did put some water and food in there with her, so she wouldn’t have to move to eat and drink and she ate more because of it. Good luck to you! I felt so awful for my bunny, but after a few days, she was acting normal again.

  I would definitely get rid of the second level after the spay – jumping up in it could rip stitches. I blocked it off a few days before my Lola’s surgery so she got used to it – she did try once or twice to jump up on a shelf that was no longer there….so it took a day to get used to it. I know you said the spay is tomorrow but hopefully you get this in time to block it off.

  Yeah just in case, if you can remove it or block it off I would.
  That’s pretty bright to test out the baby food ahead of time lol why didn’t I think of that?

  I would block it off with nic cubes and then put cardboard on the front of it. Because she might not see the nic cubes and do like you said and crash into it but she would be able to see the cardboard. Also makes for a softer spot to hit.

  I ended up removing the loft completely and will add it back when everyone is completely healed.
  
  We just got back from them vet. They look SO pitiful. Bella hasn’t moved and inch since I put her in the cage. Lola is being a bit more lively, going in and out of her litter box and eating hay, yay!!! But Lola’s surgery was first and thus she has had more time to recover so I guess it’s to be expected that Bella is more groggy.
  
  I’m torn between 1. not wanting to hover/disturb them any further and 2.trying to get them to eat a little/giving them a warm compress like the vet recommended. But I’ll give them a couple hours before trying anything.
  
  I’m very nervous about syringe feeding the critical care (needed for 2 days) and the medicines as from nail cutting experiences I know that these two don’t appreciate being forced to do anything that isn’t their idea. In a perfect world they would just voluntarily eat the meds mixed with baby food but I have a feeling that isn’t going to happen especially with Bella.

  They both seem to be doing pretty well especially Lola. Bella still seems unenthused but last night they each ate some lettuce and hay. And Lola ate a carrot and some pellets.
  
  This morning when I woke up Lola was charging around her cage asking to be let out like always…it’s like nothing ever happened with her. When I gave the meds I didn’t even have to force Lola, she practically sucked it out of the syringe and yanked on it if I didn’t push fast enough. I have literally never given anything to this piggy bunny that she didn’t eat. Also she hopped on the couch despite my efforts to block it off. She’s always had a lot of spunk.
  
  Bella wasn’t as easy and I did have to force them into her. She’s still looking a little shell shocked. I think she may have poopy butt or soft poo stuck to her fur because when I was giving her her meds she smelled a little like poop and she kept sticking her head between her legs to groom (hopefully not messing with the stitches). But I didn’t want to stress her out further by looking. Poor baby. Is this major cause for concern? They have their follow up appt on the 3rd.
  
  Also if they both appear to be eating ok do I still need to give the Critical Care?
