Yes you read that title right, I went to the Erie zoo the other day and they have a dutch rabbit with their oldest gorilla because it’s too old (45!) to be introduced to other gorillas. If you’re in the Erie area, I suggest taking a look, it’s only 8 dollars to get in and I thought it was awesome to see those two together because you’d never expect it. I would have taken a photo, but my phone broke earlier that day and we left the camera at our cottage we were staying at.  But yeah, I thought I should share that.

It was insanely adorable, the rabbit would hop over to the gorilla (Forgot it’s name.) and sniff and cuddle up to it. I pointed to it and was like “MOM!!!” And my mom said “No more bunnies.”  She knows me well, sadly, our house is too small for anymore animals, especially since my oldest sister and nephew moved back in, but each time I see a rabbit I can’t help but want it.

Gotta love the net….found a pic:

The bunny is Panda and the gorilla is Samantha.

They look super cute together but I cant help but worry about the safety of the bunny. Ive read so many stories about how unpredictable gorillas can be.

There was a gorilla at the Atlanta zoo, Willie B, that had a cat for a companion.

I’ve seen this before and I think the rabbit has plenty of places to hide just in case. From video’s I’ve seen Panda is a very happy little rabbit. Samantha is just an old soul too and I think they were very careful with the introductions. I think it’s wonderful.

Yep, that picture is them! I read on a sign there that Panda had an escape route if it was spooked, so they took precautions to that. Plus, Samantha was really slow in her movements, I don’t think she would have the energy to hurt Panda. But maybe it was because it was really humid and hot when we went, all the animals were pretty much asleep the whole time we were there.

Well that makes me feel better that the bunny has lots of places to hide. Im glad they are bringing happiness to each other.

                        Now that sure is something

Bunny Daddy are those straws coming out of your bunnies nostrils?  Now that is funny.  You are just being silly aren’t you.  lol.  Never thought of doing straws out their noses.  lol

I know it is not real is a photo job.  So the bunny was not harmed.  Just embarrassed maybe  Maybe he thinks it is funny too who knows

However, did she say “no more gorillas?”

That is absolutely amazing. The animal world/dynamic never ceases to amaze me. I wonder how they figured out that some gorillas could be with small mammals safely (rabbits, cats)?

This older gorilla is very low key and gentle with the bunny. I had the same concerns that others had when I first heard the story, but I found a few different videos on youtube from people’s own video cams and it really is amazing how gentle this gorilla is and how fine that rabbits seems.  There was one video of the rabbit it full lounge position– feet back and everything, just hanging out right next to the Samantha. Another showed the rabbit following the gorilla.   In one I saw where they were eating hay together. I was really amazed by each one — and so relieved because each time I would look for more videos of this pair, i was worried that something awful might come up or something that people perceived as the bunny doing fine was wrong.  But this pair really seems just fine.  I’m tired right now and need to go to bed, but I’ll see if I can’t find some of those videos I am talking about tomorrow.
