  After further testing (blood work, xray, & skin biopsies) my vet feels confident that Tobey has Sebaceous Adentitis. He said that the biopsy showed no Sebaceus cells present which demonstrates a high likelihood for this illness. He’s doing further research for the course of treatment. Has any bunny dealt w/ this before? What was your course of action? His case is not as severe as the cases shown on the med rabbit website & it seems to come & do. Luckily there is very little ulceration of the skin, which helps decrease infection, but I’d like to know more. It is primarily on his rump or lower back. He does have some of the scabbiness inside of 1 of his years. Pls let me know your thoughts/input. I love this little guy!

  if it comes and goes intermittently then there is a better chance of you keeping it under control..
  how long since your bun began symptoms? is the skin getting thick and waxy (this is when the fur starts coming out in clumps), or is it just dry & white?
  
  there are products made by VIRBAC Animal health that can help.
  Keratolux shampoo & Humilac skin moisturizer spray. they are not cures, but mostly for the comfort of the bunny and to prevent scratching

  I forgot your little rabbit Fubuki had this Longhairmike. It seems like I’m hearing more and more about this in rabbits nowadays.

  Thanks Sarita! I emailed fluffy bunny and she had some great advice.
  
  Tobey has had the flakiness off/on since we got him, a little over 1 yr ago. I thought that it was urine scald b/c he was caged b/f we got him. He also had a drippy eye which turned out to be a serious scratched cornea. My initial vet thought it was urine scald or allergies & suggested selsun blue & calendula cream. It went away and came back while we were treating the eye w/ a 2nd opinion vet. During that time he felt it was bacterial, so we put him on antibiotics. Vet said this would be front line defense, if it didn’t work we would do skin biopsies. The biopsies showed lack of sebacious cells, so that sold it for the vet & pathologist. He just got his stitches off today and the vet is consulting w/ rabbit specialists at the vet school.
  
  At this point it is just the white flakiness. He gets some sores, ulcers, but they are really small look like human pimples. It seems to only be on his rump. Does shaving down help or make it worse? He has some of the waxy buildup in only 1 ear, the vet sampled it & found it to be consistent. Vet is looking into tx options. If you have suggestions for tx, I will be happy to forward to my vet. He’s very intrigued by my million dollar bunny!

  I would think (but don’t know) that shaving might be more irritating to the skin and might be itchy having the fur regrow in.

  dont shave,, get the moisturizer.
  if it’s SA,, the follicle will weaken and eventually the hair will essentially ‘glued in’ by the buildup.
  moisturizer will make it release very easily.
