Ive been trying to get my parents to let me get a companion for Houdini. So my mom says that if I can convince my dad to let me, then I can. So I wrote an essay saying why a bonded pair is better than one, etc. So today he read it and told me that he would think about it, normally if hes totally against something her would just say no. So I’m hoping for the best!

I want to go to the saveabunny adoption event next week, as saveabunny is too far away, about 2 hours. The only problem is I would be the primary caretaker, but I’m under 18?….

A lot of rescues would be fine as long as your parents were both on board and took the LEGAL responsibility to care for it, so if you don’t, it’s their job to. Just remember since it is not YOUR house to let them know both the pros and the cons to a bonded pair, so they can make an informed decision. She may lose her litter habits for a while, some never fully recover them (mine are nearly a year into the bond and as yet still mark their territory together a fair bit). There may be some marking or poop wars to start. If they do not bond you may have two single bunnies instead of a bonded pair. Will be extra vet care, extra food, etc. Bonding your bunnies is great and they really do seem happy having a friend, but it is also a big hassle in a lot of ways and can cause damage to a house during the hormonal marking lets figure out who is boss period. Good luck, hope you can talk your dad into it.

I agree there is no guarantee that they will bond, I tried that and wound up with three bonded pairs instead of combining them. I don’t mind cause every one I got after Mr Hopper and Nibbles were rescued. And I have a soft heart so everytime I see a bunny in distress I melt and want to take them away.  BUNNIES WILL TAKE OVER THE WORLD!!!!

So on the Adoption Application would I write down my mom as the primary carer, or me and explain at the bottom that they will take care of them if I do not? I think it would be easier to put my mom down, but I would be doing most of the talking when we go bunny-dating.

They probably will want an adult marked down on the paper work, since as a minor you can’t even legally sign the contract to agree to their terms of care.

He said no… I’m a bit depressed, but I’ll probably get over it soon.

I’m sorry he said no. But someday, when you’re over 18 and on your own and have your own finances you can get one then! Until that time, snuggle with Houdini
