  Our landlord tells the pest control guy to equip every home with a sticky mouse trap, even if the home has no mice.
  
  The trap was set (by the guy) in a corner for a while, and Penelope would normally avoid the trap. I figured that I should put the trap on a surface Penelope wouldn’t jump on. So, I did that.
  
  Lo and behold, Penelope was feeling adventurous today and decided to leap on said surface with said trap.
  
  She “freaked out” and fumbled and tumbled accordingly.
  
  I caught Penelope, brought her to the bathroom, and pried the sticky trap off of her.
  
  The result was similar to a cosmetic leg waxing. She still has fur and no noticeable loss. However, she lost a bit of her fur (it’s seen on the trap).
  
  I searched through brands of such inhumane contraptions, and find that all (or the ones I found) are nontoxic (which is good, because I ended up getting the sticky goo around my mouth/ dont ask).

  I’m wondering how to get the goo off of Penelope because it’s on her like hair gel on a gothic kid.

  I don’t know exactly how safe “goo gone” is, but you can get it at any pharmacy/grocery store. It apparently can cause inflammation in the lungs if ingested, but if you use it externally and then wash it off with soap maybe that will be okay? i know i have used it on myself for bandaid leftover residue… I once used it on my $*&!zu after she stepped in one of those mouse traps. She lived past 16 so it couldn’t have done much damage! =]

  Have been giving this a fair bit of thought and cannot think of any over the counter solutions. I would probably use a little olive oil rubbed into the goo. Its not toxic and whilst it may linger its not going to be as bad as the sticky stuff. Once the goo is gone some of it will be absorbed by the fur (conditioner for a shiny shiny coat) then after a few days you could do a corn starch clean.

  I wonder if I can take a rabbit to a groomer…
  … I’ll try the olive oil and maybe the goo gone if that doesn’t work… Sounds scary, though.

  Those traps are horribly cruel and inhumane. It could also have caused damage to your bunnies skin, be sure not to let her get near it again.

  I threw the trap away. I don’t even know why we kept it in the kitchen. Probably just to make the pest guy and landlord happy.

  I use a “Tear and Toss” product (Mortein) that comes in a sachet. Essentially its a small envelope, you tear off one corner and toss it into the roof or floor cavity. It will kill the mouse but does not remain in the body so if something eats the dead mouse it will not be harmed. I would do some research and next time the landlord is preparing to lay traps present him with a list of acceptable products.

  I was kinda worried about penelope’s front leg being hurt, but she’s jumping on furniture, binky-ing, stealing fallen crumbs from my mom’s sandwich…
  She seems fine. I haven’t gotten to cleaning the goo off of her because i’m sick, as well.
  My mom doesn’t like to handle Penelope, so when i’m better i’ll get penny and use the oil then wash it off with the ferret conditioner I have.
  
  If it’s too bad, i’ll call up a groomer.

  I would just cut the fur. If she will hold still and it isn’t much then just use some small scissors. Hold them so they are flat facing her skin and carefully snip the tips of her fur. If it is a larger area, you may need to use clippers.

  I’d cut off the gooey fur. When Porky gets a small mat or something stuck in his fur, I use one of those little battery powered shavers advertised for things like eyebrows. They cost around $10-$20, and most drugstores bigbox stores have them.

  I’d take her to a vet and ask them to cut or shave the gooey fur off

  Peanut butter and olive removes the glue ( tip from bird owner i know who had their bird stuck in a fly trap and since you cant pluck them they had to find a removal method ). But with fur would be less stresful probably to just have your vet shave it. I wouldnt trust a groomer as it is easy for a bun to twist and break their back if held improperly.
