Little do Leo and Arduina know what they are in for tomorrow… I’m moving to Portland for the summer, it’s about a 6.5 hr drive. Arduina gets woozy in the car but has made it on a 5hr trip. Leo is harder to tell, he hates anything new but eventually gets use to it. My original plan was to stop half way and let them out in the grass in the xpen for a half hr or something but it’s supposed to be raining all day . They don’t really eat while the car is moving so maybe I’ll stop for a bit to see if they will munch in some yummy fully soaked fresh herbs. Well wish us luck, I’ll post how it goes. And if anyone has any suggestion let me know..

Goodluck! The xpen thing would make me nervous but I’m also a nervous Nellie. I think stopping is a good idea though and letting them get some hay and water. Maybe the car not being in motion will allow them to eat. My bun won’t eat in the car either. I always fear how he’d handle a long trip. Goodluck again! Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful

Stop every 2 hours for a break, so they can have a drink or snack with the car not moving. The buns appreciated in on my trips south with the Bunderground

I first got my rabbit Evelyn in California when she was 8 weeks old. I drove up from there (9hr drive) with her, and she did fine. I was a bit nervous because she was so young, but she had no problems whatsoever. We fed our bunnies spearmint during the drive to settle their stomachs. I wasn’t able to let her out at the rest stops (because she was so young), but our other bunny was able to and it really did help. I just made sure she had fresh air and that the car was nice and cool. I heard that it’s not good to let them eat anything but light greens because it can upset their stomachs with the motion of the car. It made sense for me, because I get really REALLY car sick. As long as they have water, and eat at least once during your trip, they’ll be fine.

              Enjoy Portland!

I agree that the xpen at a road side stop is not a good idea – too risky.

Better just to make intermittent stops to make sure they are okay. I doubt that they are going to eat while the car is moving anyway.

                Good luck on your move.

We made it!   Arduina and Leo did great, a very quick recovery from the trip (quicker than me with the looong drive).  Stopping every two hours, even if for only 15 minutes helped a ton.  The first 2 hrs was a bit rough for them but the 45 min lunch stop I took, they both ate some hay.  Arduina had some very wet basil and drank some water, but I’m not sure about Leo.

We will be moving again (around the end of the summer), and probably much farther depending on where I get a job.  So I guess this was a practice for them..
