Surgery went well & now she’s home,  in a Hunnyloaf in her litter box… Totally hating me

Doc said all went well & that she did infact eat a lil’ something when she woke up but hasn’t yet here at home (not even a slice of apple which knocked me for a loop!).   I guess she was “in heat” so it ended up costing me more to have the procedure done.  Why???  I didn’t even question why it was $75 more then what I was told until after it was all paid & signed for… I was too concerned bout getting my girl, I guess…

Time for me to sit back & be patient….

Vibes for Hunny. Rabbits don’t go in heat though because they are induced ovulators.

It takes a good three days for females to bounce back – the best thing at this point is to not fuss over her :~) even though I know that’s difficult to do.

I would question what the charge was for. Sarita is right, rabbits don’t go into “heat” like a dog does.

Indeed, I would ask what that charge was for. Our vet uses ferret/rabbit in the same pricing grouping and there is a “in heat” charge for ferrets, so a misclick can cause that to show up on the charges for them. Might be something similar for your vet. Glad she came through surgery OK – it’s normal for them to not eat until the next morning, that is a lot of pain and drugs to make tummies feel bad.

Thanks Sarita! Hmmm… Then why would it have been more?? Dr. Good had left for the day so it was the receptionist who suggested that thats why it cost more then the original quote. The other receptionist suggested it was because she’s a large breed. O well, I’m just happy it’s done & over & she’s back home.

Glad to hear she’s home and healing. Sarita is right though, best to give her her sleep and leave her with some yummies if she feels up to it.

On the bill note, my vet office the day of gave me a higher quote than my vet originally told me and my vet was there so she noticed and asked me to bring in the previous quote when I picked him up and she would fix it and she did. It might be worth an inquire to the actual doctor. 75 dollars is a lot of veggies

Thanks for the suggestion Frankie, I think I will give her a call in the morning cause my boyfriend wasn’t too thrilled that it was that much more…  I was “verbally” quoted $100 for a male & $175 for a female BUT then I was charged $250… then another $5 for the Metacam. The receptionist who made the suggestion of the “in heat” was actually the one I spoke with when I called that 1st day.

Might’ve been because she’s a large breed. When they gave the quote did they know what breed she was? Zeus’s neuter was a bit more costly than a standard neuter because the larger breeds require more anesthesia, medications, etc. My bill actually had it all calculated on a per lb basis.

I wish that was the case with Monkey, her spay would have been practically free

Yay Hunny! Don’t be surprised if she wants to avoid you for a few days. Cinnabun wouldn’t let me near for at least 2 before I was allowed to rub her head for a few minutes.

bunnnnnnie – It could be cuz she’s a large breed, though she’s only weighing 8lbs (still just a baby).

Cinnabun – She’ll let me pet her & sit by her in her pen & her ears are perked back up instead of all droopy… Don’t want anything to do with her greens OR pellets BUT she has eaten some dried papaya & pineapple. She def takes after her momma with a sweet tooth.

It could also have been because the receptionist that gave you the quote wasn’t aware that the anesthesia for a bunny is special and dearer than for a cat or dog and she didn’t want to admit she miss quoted you. Had that happen with Piglets last haircut even though I specifically asked the girl about the special gas.

I’m glad Hunny’s surgery went well! Sending plenty of healing vibes her way. Isn’t it such a relief to know that it’s all done and over with?

                                  Morning update –

She ate a lil (half a romaine leaf) early about 3am & a slice of apple about 20 min ago… Haven’t seen her drink any water but she’s peed a few times, very min poops though… She took the pain med without any fight which made me very happy. Been licking at the incision but won’t let me get a peek at it… I have to head to work but bf will be home to keep an eye on her. Hopefully her appetite will get better as the day progresses…
