So last time I posted I decided to that I was leaning towards not getting my rabbit Milo neutered because he had stopped breathing during the surgery the first time I tried. Since then I took him to a different exotics specialist here in Eugene, OR (the first vet was in Covina, CA) and she said that she would be able to do the neuter but wanted to do a blood panel and do what they called “extensive monitoring” during the surgery. So a week ago Milo was neutered successfully without any complications =] He is back to his normal self and has been zipping across my bed (where I am trying to do homework) for the past two hours.

here he is not looking too peppy when I brought him home from the surgery.

In other news, I went to the pet store about two weeks ago to get Milo more food. They are so tricky at the local store, they put the baby bunnies’ pen right next to all of the rabbit food. I have a habit of perusing the local animal shelter’s website to look at their available rabbits as well as a rabbit rescue that is nearby (not necessarily wanting to adopt one at the time, just curious as to what is out there), but they have not had any lops in the past 5 months which is what I have been wanting as a second rabbit. So of course when I go to get Milo’s food there is the cutest Holland Lop. I tried to resist but I could not stop thinking about him. So I went back the next day and bought him! His name is Odie and he currently has the run of the upstairs while Milo is king of the downstairs.

Here is Odie. The sun was out so I took him outside to get a good picture.

The two are night and day. Milo is so hyper and curious and Odie is relaxed and really just wants to follow you around. Odie will be getting neutered at the end of summer and then I will try to bond the two.

So that is my update! sorry it was so long!

So cute! Glad Milo got through surgery. Good luck on the bonding adventures, can’t wait to hear all about it.

Yeah, Milo needed to get neutered, I don’t know if it was because spring is in the air, but he was getting very restless. and angelicvampyre: that is exactly what went through my head when I saw him!

I’m glad to hear your little Milo had a successful surgery. I am SO NERVOUS about getting my baby spayed even though I’ve made up my mind I’m going to have it done as early as allowed. My mom goes to a really wonderful vet who specializes in exotic pets (she has a Quaker Parrot)…

And OMG!!!!! I would have brought that baby home too if I were you! Cutest little baby ever! Have you ever had 2 bunnies at once? I’m totally new here and just learning how to raise one so I’m wondering how you plan to introduce the two cuties? Oh my gosh I can’t get over how cute that baby is! I got a mini-lop… what’s the difference between the holland and Mini’s besides size? Are their temperments any different?

I was very nervous too. I think it helped that I waited until he was a little older… he seemed to put on a lot of weight after 3.5 months old (the age I first tried to get him neutered. Not “fat” weight, he just got a lot bigger in general.

I have not had two bunnies at once so this is going to be all new territory. Milo is extremely well behaved/trained though so I’m hoping his demeanor and Odie’s laid back-ness will mesh well! After I get Odie neutered I will probably bring his pen downstairs and set it up next to Milo’s. I have a room downstairs that neither go into, so I will probably start out of cage introductions there where it is neutral territory. I would love any advice from those who have had success in bonding. I know i have read that bonding two males is the hardest, but I am up for the challenge.

Hm, My new vet won’t even contemplate desexing before 6 months for a girl and 5 months for a boy. And yes they do put on a lot of size between 3-6 months.

Both vets I have gone to have said anytime after 3 months for males as long as their testicles have dropped. Milo was losing his litter habits, had a few spraying incidents and circling and so that’s what prompted me to get him neutered at 3.5. I must have called more than a dozen vets and discussed everything before settling on one and trying for the first time and none made any comment about his age. Obviously the first attempt was unsuccessful, but I think that was more because of the vet and not so much because of his size. I think I was a little misled by the first vet whereas the second was much more competent – though she does neuters for males after three months as well… I would wait if behaviors are not getting too crazy. But as for serrra, I have never heard of a place doing spays earlier than 6 months.

                          Haha sure thing!

                          Milo:

                          curious little guy!

being a couch potato for about 2.5 seconds.

                          cuddles!

                          Odie:

                          watching TV with me

                          “where’s the food?”

                              Bahahahha me too

Milo is so adorable and handsome!! I’m really glad he was able to be neutered, I had read your post after the first try. Odie is too cute. Those bunnies are so hard to resist  I love the picture of Milo being a coach potato and that picture of Odie just staring straight at the camera made me start laughing

Milo is such a wonderful bunny! and I agree he is very handsome (and I don’t jut think that because I am his mom haha)! If I hadn’t enjoyed having him so so much I don’t think I would have gotten another bunny. I always thought bunnies were cute, but you really don’t realize how much of individuals they are/how much personality they have until you own a house rabbit. He is just so funny and smart! I think the pictures I posted do a good job of showing their personalities.
I can’t wait to be able to keep the two of them together in my room! It is no fun having Odie all the way upstairs!

Thanks for the pics. Great way to start my morning.

I totally agree. I always liked bunnies, but not more than any other animal and as soon as I brought Stormy home and realized how wonderful bunnies are, (not to mention all the adorable stuff they do) I became totally bunny crazy and then added 2 more to the family.
