  Hi (: my bunny fufsy got spayed yesterday. However, it was not planned. The past week she had been acting sort of out of control, peeing everywhere (and dripping pee), stomping, slinging her hay around and eating less hay. I found some clumps of fur in her cage and she was also leaving the “strand of pearls” poo here and there. I figured she was molting and maybe she had wool block and that was why she was behaving so strange. Well, i took her to our rabbit savvy vet and he informs me that shes having “lady problems”. He tell me not only is she going through her hormonal phase, but her uterus is filled with stuff. She had endometriosis. He said she needed to be spayed immediately, so we agreed and he spayed her. He said the surgery went great and he gave her pain meds before/after surgery so shed wake up feeling okay. I asked if i needed metacam for her and he said she shouldnt need it unless i notice signs of her being in pain and i could come back and pick some up. She ate here and there when i brought her home, peed once and had very tiny poop. Shes peed 3 times today and has slightly larger poop, so thats good. Shes also eating a bit more and even plopped down a few times. I am concerned though because when i watched her pee, she made a soft grunt sound? Is this normal? Does it hurt her to pee? Immediately after she pees, she goes back to her corner and sits in meatloaf position and refuses hay i give to her. Im concerned something is off ): she also doesnt want to come out of her cage today, so i havent checked her staples/incision. Id imagine id know by now if she somehow took a staple out and her wound was open again, right? Im so scared she will pull them out or pass away in the middle of the night :c Sorry for all the questions and the long story. This is just so stressful and i have no clue what i should be expecting from her or if i should be worries or not. Please share your experiences with me. Thank you!

  It normally takes a good 3 days for females to recover from a spay.
  
  I would go ahead and call and get the metacam from the vet and give her that. She quite possibly is uncomfortable and metacam should help with that. I’ve not ever noticed that it hurts when they urinate after a spay…

  On my phone typing all of this. Anyway, ill call my vet asking about metacam. How do they take it? And do you know how long until he incision starts to close back together? Google hasnt told me much :c

  Metacam is a liquid and most rabbits like the taste – it has a honey flavor. Not sure about the incision, but it shouldn’t take long – what did the vet use – staples or glue? I’ve never had a female bother with their incision, but you do want to make sure they don’t – it doesn’t sound like she will if she hasn’t yet.

  If you are going to ask the vet about metacam, ask him about the incision as well.

  Do i feed it to her with a syringe or can i put some on her food? My vet used staples, which kind of worries me because thatd be terrible if she swallowed one /: but he knows what hes doing so i guess i should trust him ha. Shes been cleaning down there, but i cant seem to tell if shes picking at them or not. I just wish shed lay on the bed with me but she refuses to leave her cage :c

  No, use the syringe – you are not assured of getting a proper dose if you put it in her food. She may just be licking the staples because they are irritating her.
  
  The best thing to do is not fuss over her and let her rest and she’s probably more comfortable in her cage. You want to keep her confined for the next 3 to 4 days.

  my vet gave me 3 already dosed syringes of metacam for my male, I think its honey flavored and he willingly took it, he thought I was giving him a treat – hah

  sarita: okay, ill stop annoying her and see if she comes around haha. im just so paranoid of her not eating hopefully she’ll come around soon. she just seems less anti social today than she did yesterday thanks for all your advice though!
  
  kinggoblin: haha thats really good they make it in a tasty flavour. fufsy is very picky and stubborn, but maybe she’ll like the metacam since it taste like honey. the vet said that she was spoiled and had me under her control haha. i guess i need to be more assertive so shell behave better and not be so picky/stubborn. how long until your bunnies were running around again after their surgery? how was their eating/bathroom habits?

  My Cinnabun was up and running around again about 4 days later, thought I wouldn’t let her leave her “recovery” area until about a week had passed to be sure. She was hopping around, stretching out, and a few flops about 2-3 days after surgery. After a week, I let her out full time again and she seemed perfectly fine, though I watched her like a crazy person for a week and a half.
  As far as eating/drinking goes: it’s a VERY good sign that your bun was eating so soon after surgery, even if its a little bit. My Cinnabun was eating her normal amount at least a day later, though it took some time for her to want to drink (I gave her extra wet veggies in place). She bathed herself like normal probably a day later.

  cinnabun: omg first i have to say your bunny is SO CUTE AHHH i love the big floppy ears and im really glad to hear yours recovered nicely and quickly! im glad to know im not the only one freaking out like a crazy person over my bunny! lol and yes, as soon as i got home, i put her carrier and a bunch of old towels down on my bed and at first she didnt want to come out, but after 45 mins or so, she did. and id dip her hay in water and feed it to her and soak her veggies in water also. but soon enough, she actually started drinking water! it was on and off though, whenever she wanted to eat or not. last night i checked on her every hour and noticed she laid in the same spot for like most of the night. i was really worried and tried to make her eat hay because she just looked so sad…or maybe exhausted. but she eventually ate what i fed her and ate on her own. today, shes eating on her own and plopping down to lay down here and there, but im still so concerned about the little grunt she made when she went to pee i wish shed just walk out of her cage so i can examine her to make sure shes healing okay.
