› FORUM › THE LOUNGE › 50 WAYS TO CHEER UP!
Hi, BinkyBunny Buddies! This is a call for 50 suggestions of ways to cheer ourselves up.
We’ve had the BB site down for a few weeks. First, withdrawal.
Next, anger.
Finally, depression and abandonment. ![]()
Forced to turn to the outside world, a world that does not understand bunnies, we became Cranky.
Confused.
Bad spellers.
But, we’re back!!!! ![]()
In these tough times of bad jobs, bad bank accounts and bad bunnies, we need a little coping assistance. We just plain need to cheer up! So, in order to maintain our policy of Play Nice, I think we need a list of quick fixes to get ourselves back into a good mood. I want your suggestions. Make them easy, cheap, and fun. Or silly. Or calming. Or, well, you get the gist.
1. I’ll start. Give your bunny a large willow ball. Sit nearby. Watch. I guarantee seeing a bunny heaving a ball bigger than they are will make you laugh.
2. Borrow FREE DVD’s from your local library. That’s right. Your public library has a whole section of dvds you can take out on your card for 3-7 days, watch, and return. New ones. I saw The King’s Speech less than 6 months after it won awards. They also have TV show series on dvd. I keep almost typing “rent” because I forget that you just Borrow them for Free! ![]()
3. Borrow books from the Library. Yes, we did it as a kid, we did it as students, and some of us are ransacking the Mysteries section. But a book is one of the best ways to stop that anxious mental worry loop that’s been playing in your head, focus on something entirely different, and come up for air refreshed. And when you yell at the main characters (“don’t go in there, you idiot, he’s got a knife!”) we don’t hurt anyone’s feelings. The author can’t hear you. Sure, your bunny will look at you funny, but they don’t tell.
Remember those books you always wanted to read when you browsed the bookstores? Go get ’em! They’re free. At the Library.
4. Join a gym! I joined a gym during the BB break and it’s been fantastic! I feel better, more energized, and I can keep some of life’s smaller frustrations in better perspective. There are gyms out there for as little as $10 a month…
5. Last Library Suggestion: Go online and reserve any book or dvd you want ahead of time, then let them email you to come and get it.
Every library has a website, you sign in using your card #, save your account, then browse away. Read the NYT Best Seller lists. Or Caldecott Children’s Book Awards list. or a dozen others. Read blurbs. Reserve them. Put them on hold, and wait until they arrive from any branch in the county network.
Not finished yet? Go online and renew, and never pay another fine. (Still only 5 cents a day, too.)
Can’t drive over? Look up their Bookmobile schedule for the one stopping nearest you.
6. Take a walk and clear your head while you tone your booty! I’ve been walking for the past few weeks and while my booty isn’t toned yet, my head is clear sort of and I’ve been enjoying my new Ipod listening to music and podcasts to keep me company on my walk. Also been seeing cottontails and baby ducks and a few snakes too (okay, the snakes I can do without).
7. Give a little extra attention to your other animals, if you have them. I got another dog over the break and so now I spend a lot of time getting the new dog and Buck comfortable with each other.
8. Start new hobby. After BB went down I was bored a lot so I finally joined pinterest which spiked a new hobby… Cooking!
![]()
[edit: I started Pinterest too – love it! Beka & I posted #3 simultaneously, so I just renumbered these. Keep them coming!
RP]
Please erase this after you read it but RabbitPam – I thought I noticed a number change! Then I thought maybe I was delusional. But really thought I had to remember my own number. ![]()
LOL Mr. Buck. I just KNEW you’d be remembering your # and go What the….???? I usually Never edit inside someone else’s post, but once I spotted the overlap I thought it was the best way to change it while it was still only 6 changes to make.
However, that doesn’t mean that you are not delusional. After all, we are bunny lovers. doesn’t that make us, at a minimum, silly? ![]()
9. Eat a big bowl of Ice Cream! I like Ben & Jerry’s Cherry Garcia!
10. Volunteer! Days where I’m feeling *Bleghh* I go out and volunteer at my local SPCA or equine rescue. I feel much better after!.. even if I’m supremely exhausted ![]()
11. Plant a garden! I’m so excited to have a real garden space this year and to grow some veggies. I went the easy route and got seedlings from the store and I’m having fun checking on them every day. Can’t wait for some juicy tomatoes (I’m pretty sure I can grow those) and I’m excited to see if the broccoli, cauliflower, and brussel sprouts actually grow. I got so many little plants (they came in four packs) that I’m going to plant some more tomatoes and peppers in pots on the patio, and then I need to get herbs going too.
I’ll admit it would be more relaxing if it weren’t for the ticks. They’re not supposed to like cleared out areas or cedar wood, but apparently our weird mutant strain loves both. Haha
Great Post Pam!!
12. If you are feeling really blue. Have a good cry. This may seem like the opposite of what we are going for here, but it can actually have some positive effects if your heart is really down in the dumps. Just being able to have a big “Boo Hoo” for 20 minutes in private (or on someone’s trusted shoulder) can help clear out those built up emotions. If you’re like me, and it’s not that easy to let the tears flow
, then listening to a particular song can usually get things going. ![]()
Then afterward do #6 (Take a Walk), to shake off the residue. Amazing how that can sometimes make things feel lighter.
13. Go to a museum on their free day. Many museums will offer a free day once a month for the community. I know not all have access to or the flexibility, but if you do, it’s a fun way to spend a few hours without spending a dime. It’s a great distraction or if you are creative yourself, it may spark up some of your own creative energy. My personal favorite is the Oakland Museum. It’s very interesting and educational, and I learn something new every single time I go, so it never gets old. The first Sunday of every month is free. So for any Bay Area peoples, it’s a great way to cheer up!
14. Pamper yourself. Take time to put a warm wash cloth on your face, paint your nails, or give yourself a foot message. And if you can afford even better is make someone else do all that
![]()
15. Learn to play an instrument. One of the most relaxing (besides listening to my horses eat) things for me is to just sit down and either play a song on the piano or mess around on my guitar. It immediately brings the stress level down.
16. Retail therapy! Sometimes it’s really fun to just go to the mall, or Target, or (one of my favs) HomeGoods and just shop around. I usually don’t spend any money unless I’m looking for something specific, but it’s fun to walk around and window shop. I like planning how I would decorate a particular room, or what type of outfit I could wear with a certain pair of shoes.
Great IDEA!!!
17. Do some collaging! Grab bits of paper, photos, newspaper, whatever and rip them apart, slather on some modge podge and have at it! Do it on an old purse and you have a cool new purse with personal photos.
These are fabulous, you guys! Keep ’em coming. ![]()
18. Drink a nice glass of wine or a margarita or a daquiri or a Shirley Temple or a refreshing lemonade.
19. Dance! Turn on something that you really love or even something completely silly. I know it sounds kind of stupid but when we’re stressed my sister and I like to turn on some music and just sing and dance around like weirdos. It’s good exercise and completely changes your mood! Just make sure the curtains are closed ![]()
20. chocolate
nuf said ![]()
19. Make time for yourself. Sit down with a coffee (my suggestion: a latte) and read a good book or work on a craft.
20. Bubble bath!
22. A little horse riding could help. I love cantering through the woods. Saddle up!
23. Sometimes when I feel crafty I will start making cute little signs for organization boxes. I got some fold- away cardboard boxes from Wal-mart for I think, 50 cents!
I painted them and now have them for my chinchillas; food, toys, and tunnels ![]()
24. Go for a swim! It’s always fun to get some Vita D ![]()
25. Count your blessings! Don’t focus to much on bad, or depressing feelings.
Just think about the good things in life like friends and family! Or….YOUR BUNNIES!<3
Give your mom or friend a call and talk, it will make you feel better in some situations.
Like mentioned before you could pamper yourself.
Like go to a spa, paint your nails, or sometimes it even feels good to get a haircut!![]()
sorry i can’t top posting these! lol
26. Eat something fresh and crunchy and healthy! You could be feeling sad because your blood sugar has taken a dip. Eat a tray or bowl of yummy fruits and veggies with dip or without!
27. Buy yourself a bouquet (sp?) of fresh flowers or trim some out of your own garden!
….Last one….
28. Make lists. Doesn’t it feel great to be capable of doing things? de-clutter a part of your home that needs it!!
Also , put things on a to-do list it will help to cross off things you accomplish.
Another great tip is drink water when you are dehydrated you can feel depressed.(#29)
LOL @ pandorachik – you’re the best!

LOL @ pandorachik – you’re the best!
ah, why thank you!
I just kept thinking of them. I got the one about water off a website lol![]()
29. Dont underestimate the power of DQ. I had a cookie dough blizzard last night…made me very happy. ![]()
30. When in doubt, go to your bunny. Their ultimate wisdom will cheer you up. Bunjamin’s the best listener too (as long as I give pets and/or treats) ![]()
31. Download your favorite songs/singer/album from MP3 store on Amazon. So cheap (compared to buying cd’s) and I just got Donna Summer’s “On the Radio” (2 volumes for under $10.) They were my college (& after) dance songs, and I have so many memories of cheering up by DANCING.
At parties, alone, and once I taught my big brother disco in my parent’s living room. I forgot how many of her songs I really, really love. (As opposed to Bee Gees disco, which I think I could never hear again and be quite happy. Sorry, BG fans.)
32. Do something good for yourself. I do Yoga on Tuesdays (sometimes on Friday) at the gym in the morning. It makes me feel relaxed, and makes me feel as though I am giving good back to my body. It is SO refreshing and I feel as though I can take on the world.. ER, homework that is.
We are getting there! 17 to go!
I guess I will do number 33!
33. Go out and eat! I love to go to Frischs with friends or family! I always get a big huge salad with spinach, romaine, iceburg, crutons, ranch, eggplant, onions ETC ETC ETC!!
And at the end I always grab a hunk or romaine leaves for Pablo!
Also, sometimes a soft fountain drink will refresh you!
Bump.
34. Plan a stay-at-home movie night! Every Saturday night my husband and I do a movie night. We take turns picking a movie and have lots of tasty snacks. Its something cheap and fun to look forward to. Last Saturday we watched Puss n Boots (my pic, obviously
). Totally cute.
I have recently acquired the “Creature from the Black Lagoon” trilogy 1954-1956. I can burn it if anyone wants. Its hillarious !!!! Evacuation scene “Clear the oceanarium, get out, get out…. do not approach the beach side of the ocean as the creature may be heading for water !!!!” Hello? Beach side of the ocean ???? Heading for water in an oceanarium?? The real clincher is the woman that loses hold of her childs hand and ends up tossing her in the creatures path whilst she (Mum) runs for safety. The child is ignored and lives. The creature destroys a Cadillac instead.
LOL @ Roberta. I loved those! I remember them well. They used to run them all the time on TV on Sunday afternoons or late at night. Just hysterical. Black & white made it even funnier. He had those great gills. Must go now – heading for the Beach side of the Ocean to watch for Creatures…..
Oh my gosh, I totally remember Creature from the Black Lagoon! Funny, I do love those old shows like Leave It to Beaver, I Love Lucy, The Lone Ranger, My Favorite Martian, etc…
Okay, here’s another one from me:
35. Make homemade bread and then eat it! I love the smell of bread baking and eating fresh bread, cannot beat that…even though it’s a slow process, it’s so worth it.
Sarita you just reminded me I’ve been craving banana choc. chip bread for a while though. Time to go suck up to my momma! lol
36. Watch really bad free movies online, on demand, etc. I used to love to do this. Sometimes you just need a good laugh.
We have to get up to 50! Come on people!
37. Ride a bike.
Not sure if someone mentioned it.
But it’s fun to hum a song and ride my bike or four wheeler.
It’s actually really fun.![]()
38. Clean your house, your room, etc…nothing better than having a clean house. And cleaning can be good therapy too…
39. Grab a friend and your dogs (if you have any
) and head out to a lake/river/ocean and just hang out! Or even just go for a little drive, blast your music, and sing your heart out
One of my favourite summer activities is to get some friends and our dogs together and go somewhere that you need to hike in a bit. Go swimming, eat lunch, and just spend a day out in nature! It’s soul refreshing![]()
40. Drive home via a road you don’t usually use for a change of scenery. Sometimes a change of scene reminds you that there’s a world out there, quite nearby, that is outside any rut you may be in, and it can be pretty or refreshing to see something new but local.
We’re close to 50! I am going to copy the whole post when we finish and save the suggestions. (Maybe make a pretty poster or document in pdf and upload it.)
41. Log on to a cute photo site like CuteOverload, Disapproving Rabbits or The Daily Bunny. Nothing makes me smile quicker than an adorable photo, preferably bunny. ![]()
42. Buy or make something for your bun! It makes me feel better to have something new for Pablo!<3
43. Go on a picnic ![]()
Pack your favorite foods and go with someone you enjoy spending time with. My sister and I go on picnics on this one hill thingy in the country near our farm, we usually bring some special foods and drink spritzers or sparkling grape juice out of champagne glasses to be all fancy![]()
44. Okay this might be a stupid one so don’t judge! ![]()
Write a letter to someone. I don’t know why but it’s so much more exciting getting something from someone in the mail. My boyfriend recently just sent me a letter in the mail for no reason, I know it sounds cheesy but it means a lot more than an email or a text for some reason. I’ve also been writing letters to my friend who moved away last year. It’s fun!
I totally agree, bunnyfriend. I love snail mail!
Bunnyfriend: It does mean more! I know what you mean!
If you want to go all out, get some stationary and stickers! It will be fun to write a silly, or meaningful letter with stickers!
45. Pick fresh veggies or berries! Theres a small strawberry farm where my grandma lives, and I love picking a bunch and eating them!
Also I grow parsley, and cilantro. And to be honest, I just pop them in my mouth. Some people don’t like it, but I do! YUM
46. Make some sort of dip for chips! It might sound dumb but I make homeade guacamole, it’s heaven!! YUM! It really gives some cheer to my week
I’m gonna go again… -nudge-
47. Jump on a trampoline!
48. Beep a bunny nose.
49. Try to get to know your bunny on a new level or teach him a new trick!
I really like when Buck comes on my chair with me so I started treating him EVERY time he got up and now he just hops up there to see if I’ll give him something. I do every once in a while that way he’ll always come check if I have something. Sometimes I just take away from his daily pellets and use that which he still LOVES haha, he’s so cute, he’ll jump all over me if I’m up there and look at my hands like come on, where’s my treat. Sometimes he’ll jump off and jump right back on like, “ok, you have to see me!”
WOO HOO! 50!!!
50. Set an attainable goal. Reach it. Pat yourself on the back for real, without qualifiers. Acknowledge that you probably couldn’t do it alone.
Thank everyone who helped you along the way. Record the achievement. Save it to look at later.
THANKS EVERYONE!
