One of my friends (who has been dying to adopt a bunny) was asked to bunny sit a friend’s friend’s bunny until August. She arrived in a cage with nothing in it, a small container full of “junk” food (with corn, etc. in it), a tiny container of hay (obviously old – and only enough for MAYBE a week) mixed in with that shredded aspen litter stuff, dry shampoo, and a slicker brush. My friend was given NO info about her upkeep (when she gets fed, what, etc.) – after repeated emails and texts, she was finally told that she could feed her “only carrots, lettus [sic], and cucumbers, and only sometimes, she doesn’t need veggies.” When told that the hay was out, this “friend” promised to show up with more on Saturday – never did – on Sunday she texted “I might be able to get there on Tues, she’ll be fine without hay”.
Luckily I live in the same town so cute little (we have no idea what her age is) – unfixed :-/ – girlie bunny has nice fresh hay, toys, etc. and my friend the bunnysitter has all of my books so she can read up. Little girlie is doing REALLY well – she’s binkying just because she’s out of the cage (which makes me wonder….), she’s a slave for being pet (omg she lays down flat and begs for them – I wish my kids did that!) She went wild over the new hay yesterday and her poops are finally starting to look the right color (my friend is only feeding her the pellets from the “food”).
To us it looks like official bunnymom isn’t really interested in her little girl…. at the very least she’s ignorant. She won’t listen to my friend “but she NEEDS to eat veggies…” “she does NOT”… so, um, can we bunnynap this cute little girl? Would that be really really really wrong?

Seriously though, what does one do in a situation like this, where the health and well being of a bunny is being neglected (not to the point of abuse, thankfully) – I mean, bunnynapping aside, do we change her diet so she’s eating the right stuff, or do we just keep treating her the way official mom does, knowing that it’s bad for bunny?
