When I first got Smudge I was using Equine Fresh. Then, I was able to get quite a few bags of the oak woodstove pellets and have been using those for a while. I just ran out and cannot find them anymore, so I had to buy Equine Fresh again. Now, Smudge refuses to use his litter box. Any suggestions?!!

I like yesterdays news, I get it at petsmart its ( like 13/bag ) or cozy n fresh from tractor supply ( like 6.99/bag )

I would get cozy n fresh if tractor supply wasn’t so freaking far away

You can purchase Lone Star Litter at D&L Farm & Home Store – that’s what I purchase.

              Sarita~
Is it pine? Does it have a strong smell? I assume the smell has turned Smudge off. This is a boy with PERFECT litter habits. After I put the Equine Fresh in (last night), there is poop all around the litter box and not one single one IN it. Sigh.

Powder was the same about the pine smell, he wouldn’t touch the box with it in there. I have to use yesterdays news

It is pelleted pine. I don’t really notice a strong smell myself, but Smudge might…the good thing is it’s pretty cheap – I think it’s about $6 for a 35 lb bag.

Yes, that is why I love Equine Fresh. 40 lbs is $5.00. I have 8 litter boxes to clean and fill, so the cheaper the better. But it seems he is protested pine. So, now what the heck am I going to do? And I really have no idea why they charge so much for Yesterdays News?!!

Are you getting the YN for the cats? I think the one they make for small animals is more expensive, but they are both the same. Just the one for small animals is in a small bag with a large price. It’s still more expensive of course than the Equine Fresh or Lone Star Litter.

Purina discontinued the Yesterday’s News for rabbits and ferrets and now only make the cat version. They have the Original Formula and the Softer Texture formula, either lightly scented or unscented. It seems like most stores carry the scented version these days, and I have to search around to find unscented.  Their site says that the Softer Texture Unscented is most similar to the rabbit version they used to have.

It’s been a while since I bought Yesterday’s News, but I am pretty sure it was for cats. I bought a back of a Yesterday’s News “knockoff” at a feed store and it smelt like dirt. I couldn’t stand the smell! I wish I could find affordable aspen pellets, I prefer that over pine.
