It’s been two days since I’ve started bonding my two male (neutered) rabbits. They’ve been living side by side and that’s been going well, but once I put them in the bathroom together yesterday there was some ignoring and some fighting (stopped it before any hair pulling). Today I decided to put them together again and it was HORRIBLE. I’d stop mini fights but I don’t know what happened…I guess I looked away for a second and all of a sudden I hear them fighting and I got them to stop and pulled one of the rabbits away but then I saw TONS of fur everywhere. This fight broke out literally 2 minutes of being around each other. My bunny looked so scared :/ I know it’s only been two days but I don’t want this to happen again. Should I stop the bonding process?

edit: Im starting the switching cages process (putting one rabbit in the others cage and vice versa). They’re both grooming themselves and eating in the other cages. Do you think I should do this for a couple nights before putting them together again?

It’s only the second day, don’t give up so soon! Try a smaller area, or a car ride.

I know, the fight just freaked me out :/ they both seem to be okay in each others cages. They’re eating and laying down. I guess they’re getting used to each others scent. I’d do the car ride technique but I’m scared to even put them in the same box for a second.

Give them a couple days to get used to each other’s smell and presence before putting them together again and let us know how it goes

USe a small space, such as a bath tub. And yeah, a car ride causes stress between the rabbits, and they tend to cuddle and bond that way.
                Good luck.
Keep us posted on how it goes!

I agree – try a small space, like a bathtub, and use stressing when they start to get in a tizzy. I would put mine in the laundry basket for 20sec, shake them around, then put them back in the tub and they were typically more subdued. Fur pulling is normal – my girl still does it to my boy and they’ve been bonded almost 2 years. Scuffles are normal too.

You can also try getting them used to each other’s presence by putting them in a small box or in your lap and petting them, switching hands often to they get familiar with the other’s scent. Good luck though!

You definitely need to stress them out first!! This is VERY important! Car rides work best! The longer, the better! Have someone who is willing to help you be in the back with your buns while you drive! Or vice versa. A box or cage would work nicely! If the car rides isn’t an option. You can also put them in a box and put them on top of the dryer/washing machine while it runs! Try these before putting them into a neutral area! Have you tried different neutral areas also? Please feel free to message me if you need more advice! Good luck!

I am going to be bonding two neutered males in just over a month – just waiting for my little one to have his surgery and heal – so you should keep updating! I am curious as to how you are doing.

Stressing them is good- I know, I put this video ond almost every thread, it should be a red pin in the Bonding Section! But, since it isn’t, here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfUDIIe_Kpk
                          Enjoy!
