Im wondering if Im cra…zy for considering this…I really enjoy crafting and want to make it into a business…does anyone have any advice?  Im thinking of starting small, maybe just using sites like etsy or others like it and maybe going to some flea markets or craft shows…any thoughts or ideas?

do you already make jewelry? Either way if you have a craft that you’re good at it I don’t think it hurts to give it a go to try to make some money selling what you produce. BUT if making a living to support yourself with selling a craft it is really hard IMO. I’ve tried to sell my art and it was very unsuccessful. But I do know people who have sold their crafts, like crocheted hats and jewelry and made money. If I was any good at jewelry making especially I would start selling with friends before I ventured online. That might give you an idea of what is popular and give you somewhat of a reputation.

Go for it I say! I’m curious as to why you think it might be crazy? Unless your are considering it as your chief income as FrankieFlash mentioned. Yes, that could be risky but venturing into any self employment is.

I’m currently in the process of getting an Etsy store set up to sell my embroidery and sewing creations. It’s going to be all bunny related crafts. I think Etsy is great because it’s very affordable to list items. From what I hear, though, it’s hard to get your shop noticed amongst the million others on the site so you have to do marketing. Setting up a Facebook/Twitter account or blog are good ways to get your shop noticed.

You should look into buying the monthly magazine “Craftseller”. It’s great, I buy every issue. Has lots of great tips on setting up a shop, marketing, etc. and also includes lots of craft ideas you can make and sell. I buy mine from a local magazine shop but if you can’t find it you can buy it online. It’s a British mag so it’s pretty pricey but it’s worth it IMO.

              Good luck!

Once you got an Etsy site set-up, you could also go to Vistaprint and have business cards made for very cheap (or FREE, just pay shipping) with your Etsy info. As you wear your jewelry out and about, if you get a compliment, don’t be too shy to whip out your card.

Thanks! You all definitely gave me some great ideas! I think the only reason I’m. Nervous is because I am so afraid of failing lol, but I’ve gotten a lot of good feed back from friends and family and have sold pieces here and there but never made the full commitment to doing it! I didn’t even think of Facebook ! Thank you all again, I’ll try posting some pictures later for more feedback
