I got Hazel’s CT results back from her vet today. She showed the CT images to me, and said there is a bony mass inside of Hazel’s right nasal passage. Although this is definitely weird, there aren’t any signs of bony change or deterioration elsewhere, or any inflammation present. My vet doesn’t think that it is cancerous or any kind of tumor, since it’s definitely bone. She said that this is probably what’s making her nose run, so her issue could be chronic.
However we have to wait to get the culture back, because the bony mass could be trapping bacteria around it or behind it. Once we get the culture back we can figure out what antibiotics to put Hazel on to resolve any infections she has. Surgery isn’t really indicated in this case, since the mass isn’t blocking her nasal passage or causing any inflammatory issues that are affecting her health severely.
So I’ve just got a weird little bun! I’m glad I got the CT done though, because now that I know she has a bony growth inside her nose I can keep an eye on it if anything changes with her breathing, etc. in the future. I’m so glad we have this mostly figured out, and now we can focus on keeping her comfortable, with hopefully less snot and sneezing!
And hopefully less vet trips, because Her Highness was less than pleased at being anesthetized, ran through a CT, and then having a catheter shoved up her nose to flush out gobs of snot. And oh my, did she let me know it! She wouldn’t let me touch her or come near her for the whole day and evening…I finally got some pets in around midnight. All seems forgiven today though, she’s lounging on the couch with me as usual
