I’d take her to meet some shelter buns and let her pick her own friend. That works better than taking home a random bunny that she may end up hating.

Pros: Snuggle buns are awesomely cute. They have a playmate. It’s cute watching them play with the same toy

Cons: have to empty the litter box twice as often. Buying twice as much food can get expensive depending on what you buy. Vet care bills x2. Twice as much living space until they are bonded.

It’s really up to you If you want to go for it, try the bunny dating first

Well personally I really am happy that I chose to adopt a second rabbit. I think both of them really benefit from having each other around. Plus I have school so I know they aren’t lonely all day. It’s so sweet seeing them following each other around and snuggle together.

I think going bunny dating would be a good thing to do. I was really lucky because I adopted Totoro without seeing if he would get along with Wilbur first, they ended up bonding really quickly but I wouldn’t risk it again if I ever get another rabbit.

Hahah and I agree, babies are a TON of work! (I adopted Wilbur at 8-10 weeks).

Your reason for adopting is excellent, and if we could convey a reason for getting a second adult shelter bunny to other members considering it, I would want to quote you – you put it so well.

As far as experience goes, I urge you to just hit the Bonding Forum here and start reading. Scroll through to get an idea of various topics people have brought up. It will give you a range of information on how it goes from easy, quickly successful ones to the more challenging ones. Beka’s personal bonding sessions with Max and Meadow come to mind for a solid progression to fairly fast success. Mark has a link to his long process of a really difficult bond that also ultimately succeeded. The Bunny Info Menu at the top also has info. you should read.

2 immediate suggestions: First, as was said, take your bunny dating. Do not let anyone else decide for you, but only bring home a bunny that has met him and had a good start. That could be ignoring each other, but you adopt who HE likes, and who ALSO likes him, regardless of age, looks or gender.
Second, get your house ready with a completely separate set up for the second bun. Two cages, two litter pans, sets of dishes, etc. You want to be prepared to keep them apart at all times initially, with a few inches between them when housed, until the bonding process is complete. You must be able to have this the way they live permanently if they never bond, and many members do that. With success comes merging, in which case you have back up supplies for the future or when traveling, but for now, set it up for 2 and have it ready to bring the new bunny home to.

You have the time, space, and energy for a second, so I say go for it!

I agree with the others that visiting a shelter and having her meet other buns would be the best start. You’ll have more success with the boys, but there might be some laid back girls that would be a good match too.

I would have her date at a rescue, but I would probably START the dates with neutered males. Momo sounds to be quite the “opinionated lady”. I had (have!) an “opinionated lady” as well. We adopted the most docile, easy-going male ever, and I still think that is one of the best decisions we could have made. Momo will probably want to be the boss, so I would look for her opposite.

Sometimes a rabbit who has a personality like that can change a little when they are bonded to a rabbit who is the opposite.
