› FORUM › HOUSE RABBIT Q & A › Yellow feet….
When I first got Molly from the pet store the bottoms of her feet were this green color. Well since having her that color went away, but its now a yellow. I’ve heard that this can be from them standing on the litter? I use carefresh naturals, its brown. Her last litter was the carefresh in white. Since I’m using the naturals its not like dye that is getting on her feet. Is it her pee? If so, what do I do to prevent this? I don’t want her little feet stained with her own pee that’s not good ![]()
Hopefully the picture shows up. Last time I tried this it didn’t work….can you see the yellow marks on the feet? (she is straching behind her ear btw lol and those stains on the carpet, I FINALLY got them out!! Thanks to Nature’s Miracle!!!) ![]()
Am I just stupid?? Why won’t my pictures ever upload?? ![]()
Yellow on the feet is usually from urine, changing the litter box more often can help, or getting a larger box so she can avoid wet spots, or a litter screen so she can stand off the wet litter. ![]()
:'( My picture won’t upload…….She used to spend a lot of time in her litterbox, but she doens’t usually sit in it like she used to. Maybe I can find a screen somewhere.
They are sold in the store here, I couldn’t really find them anywhere else… you can also make your own if you are comfortable with working with steel mesh to make it not sharp/fit.
I usually upload the pictures to photobucket then link them that way.
It could be hay – it can turn feet greenish.
Some bunnies just get it more than others, whether from a little pee or from hay. Hannah’s feet are always a little yellowish while Otto’s are snowy white and they live in the same environment and neither really pees out of the litter box where they would step in in. In fact, Hannah spends much less time in the litter boxes – she gets the hay by standing outside the cage and pulling it through the bars while Otto just sits in the litter boxes.
I will admit, i have no clue how to use photobucket… :/
I guess if its normal for bunnies to get it then I shouldn’t worry too much. I will look into one of these screens tho and see if that will help any.
Nova has one yellowish foot and one white foot. I don’t even try to figure her out any more! But yeah, it is pretty normal.
I wonder if it’s just a matter of how well they clean themselves? Could be that Nova can reach one foot more easily than the other. I also think Otto cleans himself better than Hannah – I rarely see her clean the bottom of her back feet.
I was wondering that as well. She doesn’t seem to have any problem moving or stretching that I can tell, but she might just have one side that she uses more. Like left handed vs right. I will have to watch her more closely for that.
Exactly – she might just bend easier one way over the other. I know horses and dogs have preferred ways that they bend, so rabbits probably do too and they don’t notice that one side gets a little cleaner than the other.
Hannah keeps herself much cleaner than Otto in the bum region, so it’s funny she ignores her back feet. Otto, on the other hand, is sitting there cleaning carefully between each toe. lol
I’ve got an outbreak of yellow foot at the moment too but I know exactly whats causing it. Lovely fresh hay with iced cool packs for the Summer heat. Every bunny is snugged up to their coolies and the hay around them gets damp and some of the colour transfers, given that Daddy Piglet and 4 of the Babies are white angora X’s this is not an attractive look. Piglet is fastidious with his toe cleaning but the babies at 8 weeks still put playing as a greater priority.
Leopold used to have yellow feet. I think he’s stopped lounging in the litter so much. Maybe. Haha! They look whiter now though.
This is just a test post to see if the photo is going to work….

Powder cleans his feet constantly (after every litter use, he has to clean himself) but without the screen they were still stained yellow lol Stickers doesn’t groom nearly as much, but her feet always stayed pristine white. *shrug* I just consider it one mystery bunnies will keep to themselves. Mine don’t stand on their hay though.
Yes it isn’t anything to worry about. She’s cute even with stained feet, hehe.

hahaha thanks!
I’m gonna try getting a screen from BB store. I forgot to measure the size of her litterbox tho and I’m at work so I can’t order today :/
I noticed that switching to equine fresh for my litter cleared her foot color. Wet hay can cause it too. Momo likes to throw her hay everywhere, get it wet with either pee or water from her bottle, and lay in it. Why do I have such a strange rabbit?
Glad you got the photo inserted. I was going to direct you to the ALERT notice at the top of the page, so if anyone else is finding it glitchy, don’t worry for now.
From an artist’s standpoint, green is made up of blue and yellow, and when green fades it often gets lighter and looks more yellow. If she had green feet to start, she may be gradually becoming cleaner and cleaner, with new skin and fur growing in, so it looks yellow but is actually fading green.
Or she shops for slippers online at night with your credit card while you’re sleeping. Next week: pink!

HAHAHA!! Maybe thats where all my money goes!! Thats actually a good point it might be fading. I got her the end of November idk how long it takes to fade.
When we got dragonfly – he had yellow feet and sides – from sitting/laying in his own urine – the vet told me it could take up to 6 months for a complete shed to take away all of the discolorations
