  I have a 2 yr old ChiPin(Chihuahua mixed with Min Pin) who I saved from going to the shelter just over a year ago named Rex. And Buck, my bun, is 10 months old, according to the shelter I adopted him from. Last night they were both in my room – loose and just playing. I’ve only had the bunny a week and a half so they don’t get a lot of time together just yet, but last night I’d say they had about 20-30 minutes before the bunny was done. They chased each other around a little, nothing aggressive, around and behind, over and under anywhere they would fit. Occasionally Buck would find somewhere Rex just couldn’t fit, even though he’s only 9lbs – and so he’d just wait, moving all around it trying to get him out. Eventually he’d come out and it would start again. I was so surprised, I never thought they’d be so good together in such short time.
  
  I always supervise their play, and would never leave them alone! But it was so cute, and after a while Buck went in his cage drank some water and flopped down like I saw someone saying their bun does! It was so cute how he almost “dove” into that flop! He was content, and just enjoyed playing with my dog. I’m hoping one day I can get a cute picture of them cuddled up together.
  
  Anyone else here have a friendly dog/rabbit pair? Or other species success?

  I don’t have a dog yet, but I’m planning to get a puppy this summer and I really hope that some day my buns can have a nice relationship with my dog. I don’t care if they play, but I hope everybody can be calm and get along during evening play time.

  I’m a huge supporter of shelters, and older animals. Breeding is horrible – because of the over population of all animals already. I just adopted my 10 month old bunny, and my dog was over a year when I got him too. Maybe if you look at shelters you can find a calmer dog or puppy. And just a suggestion, don’t go for the hounds, they might try to “track” him down for you. Some nicer shelters might actually let you bring along your bun so you can see if the dog just wants to eat him or not.
  When I first introduced the dog and rabbit without a cage, I had a water bottle handy, that way if the dog did something Buck didn’t like – I’d just spray him a little. Luckily the bunny was able to get away from the dog if he didn’t want to be bothered. Under chairs and couches are his favorite, sometimes he gets out of his cage just to go under my rocker/recliner – he’s a punk.

  Thanks for the advice. I’m pretty knowledgeable about dogs and I’m comfortable with my decision of where to get one.

  Sounds like you’re off to a good start. My friend has a chihuahua that was a rescue and he was so damaged by a previous owner for several years that he wouldn’t let anyone pet his head. Well, we cured that this summer and he loves when I visit (my friend yells to him that his girlfriend is here and he comes running.) He is very cute, but he has a standard warning growl when he’s had enough. Then he snaps.
  
  I mention this because if you hear your dog growl at any time near the bunny, it’s time for them to part for the day. Unsupervised can go wrong, but other than saying that, I think you have two budding buddies.

  For sure. He’s very good about growling for warning or just walking away from the situation. There are places the dog can get to that the rabbit can’t just chase him also. Last night when I was getting Buck another carrot for being so good, even though it was only like 30 seconds, I still took Rex with me so they weren’t alone.
  Thanks for the warning though RabbitPam. Always gotta watch out for those little dogs, they can be crazy!
