So, Navi is living with me and my parents for now, while my fiance goes through his internship about 4 hours away from my house. This weekend was his birthday, so I left Navi in my dad’s care for 4 days while I went down there. I’ve done this dozens of times, usually for only 3 days instead of 4.

Well, I get home last night and make a beeline to go see her. No pellets, no hay, and no water! I was sooo angry. When I asked my dad when he fed her last he said “I dunno… 2 days ago?”

I think I need to find a real petsitter for her, which seems a little ridiculous, since she’s so easy to care for (I didn’t even ask him to empty her litterbox, because I put extra boxes in her cage and she’s not finicky over when you change it). All I asked him to do was feed her hay, pellets, and a few greens, as well as water her. Does anyone in the Northern Virginia area know of any bun sitters?

Wow, that’s awful! I can’t believe your dad would so irresponsible. I can’t help you on pet sitters, but there are sites online that I’ve used in the past for referrals (don’t remember the name, but you’ll find them if you Google pet sitters)

Uggg I’m sorry. Have you talked to him about how to you feel and how that was really not okay?

What if you just called him each morning/evening and spoke with him for a few minutes WHILE he fed and watered? For a short time, it would be a shame to have to pack her up, and I assume you couldn’t have a petsitter to the house with your dad home?

I know I would rather have my parents watch my bun at their house rather than take her somewhere but after a similar instance, I knew I had to find a place. She was left with no water or hay and her litterbox was an absolute mess! I did understand that they were at work all day and were not able to care for her during the day, but there are extra bowls available and there was plenty of room for extra hay. Anyways, there is a rescue group that does bunny sitting for a very minimal fee and its such a relief to know! So I suggest, contact a bunny rescue near you and see if they know of anyone that does low cost bunny sitting. a much better bet for you bun!
