So, the Year of the Rabbit is over and the Year of the Dragon is beginning.

Are you doing anything to celebrate? I’m making vegetarian Chinese food tonight to celebrate. I normally don’t do anything special. I actually never used to pay any notice to the Chinese New Year but ever since Year of the Rabbit began I find myself fascinated with it.  This is the Year of the Water Dragon, which happens once every 60 years.  Do we have any Dragon BBers?

I had to post this adorable pic I found.

          Happy New Year!
My sis-in-law is from Taiwan, so we have been very aware of each New Year for the past decade.
I have a red envelope with a $ gift inside for she and my bro. (Oh, never give the number 4 or 8, it’s bad luck. Not the same as in numerology.)
Dragon is an energized and positive year I believe, so I am looking forward to it. We once saw a dragon dancer locally in a great costume with the large head and you fed it dollars for good luck. You give family cash in red envelopes to assure a year of prosperity and good fortune.
In Taiwan, the whole country kind of takes a rest for several weeks to celebrate. It’s very social and civilized (especially compared to here were people don’t even take a long weekend around any holiday anymore if you work in retail, food service, etc).
Tomorrow is my bro’s birthday, so it’s double time to celebrate. Let them eat cake!

My department spent the morning looking up everybody’s Chinese zodiac signs and reading the descriptions 🙂 We do have one dragon in the group I think, but mostly rats and tigers.

Yup, in Taiwan the winter break is centered around the lunar new year, not Christmas/our new year like it is in the west.  I’ve always wanted to go back to Taiwan to see the festivals and spend the occasion with family…and of course all the amaaazing food people make for the feasts.  But unfortunately it doesn’t match up very well with our calendars, and I can never get enough time off from school to justify the expensive flight, haha.

If anybody is wondering what to eat for dinner, it’s traditional to have noodles on new year’s for longetivity!  Or maybe you can find some extra-long strands of hay for your bunnies?

I’m a dragon, too, I think. Born in 1976. That pic is incredibly cute. I hope your dinner turns out delicious!

Happy birthday to your brother, RabbitPam.

Happy Bday to your bro, Pam. And Happy New Year to our Dragons.
I am Year of the Rabbit. In a sense I will be sad to see it go because the next is in…2023? Not sure I’ll see that one…lol.
I hope hubby was able to find our favorite chinese restaurant open today, I sent him with specific instructions for potstickers.

Peppy, I eat so many different kinds of noodles I may yet become immortal! Bwahaha! XD

                          Happy New Year!!!

We made some New Year’s cards and sent them to Hakuoh, our sister school in Japan. I should have drawn that rabbit dragon instead  The girl I had stay with me for the exchange program would have loved it.

First… OMG (lol) that picture is CUTE! Plus it looks like Timbu when he was smaller!!! Saving that to my pic folder.

I’m a dragon rawr. I’ve only just realised the connection, the year or the Dragon and my birth year being the Dragon. I’ll have to read more about it!

A friend had her business neighbours come and roll 9 oranges over the threshold of her shop for good luck. I don’t know where they came up with it. lol

I’m kinda a little bummed it’s not year of the rabbit anymore but at least the crazy mailing of live rabbits should be over!    Hopefully humans will have learned better by the time the year of the rabbit rolls around again.

Jerssey, at least if they try mailing live dragons they may learn their lesson 😛

LPT, that pix is spreading around my Facebook page – soooooo cute.

Thanks you guys for the bro bday wishes.

Jersey, you are a dragon, so you get to take the lead this year. We follow to your rawr!
                                LOL @ Elrohwen.

When I was a teen my eldest brother wrote a musical with a friend with the main character a reluctant, intellectual dragon who embarassed his kid. I drew him wearing big round glasses and a bow tie. His name was Urasis Dragon.
