It’s been a good long while since I’ve dealt with this. I remember the vet flushing the tear duct which didn’t really work but I’ve heard of this working on some rabbits.
I think with my rabbit it ended up being an elognated tooth root that which was making it unable to drain properly. Apparently the tear duct canal is very very small too.
We tried drops and ointments initially on the eyes but it didn’t clear it up.
He always had a runny eye and the fur under his eyes could never grow and it was always red – it was very sad. I think if he had a friend who groomed his face, it may not have been so bad.
He did have this most of his life too – he had ongoing dental problems eventually – I suspected alot of his problems were bad breeding – I have no idea how he started his life, but he was rescued by a friend of my husband (he and another rabbit were being chased by dogs, he was able to save Bunbun) – I suspect he was the result of a backyard breeder.
Hopefully the eye drops will clear up your rabbit’s eyes though. Maybe ask about flushing the tear duct…
