I agree. A ginea pig cage is too small.

Petsmart sells some good sized cages. I got one for my chinchilla. It is about 5 ft. long! pretty nice size.
I attached a pen, and he absolutely loves it.

3×2 is too small, the living space needs to be at least 4×4, with access to a run about 4 hours a day.

3×2 is small, but I think the grids are abotu 15″ which makes it around 4’x2′ – the minimum size we recommend for a small rabbit. Rabbits do prefer a larger area to run around, but it can also help to make multiple levels – a 3×2 condo with three levels would provide some area to exercise.

Personally, I prefer puppy playpens which are 4’x4′ (and you can move them around so they fit in whatever space you have – they don’t have to be set up in a square). They’re also super portable and easy to clean (since you can just pick them up and fold them).

I wouldn’t recommend a pet store type cage unless you plan to attach a pen that the rabbit has access to 24/7. My pair has a 4’x2′ pet store cage with a puppy play pen attached. I like the cage because it keeps the hay and litter boxes in an easy to clean area, but the cage by itself is way too small for either of my rabbits (4lb and 5.5lb)

 I prefer the pens as well. Much easier to clean and keep clean than a cage in my opinion.

She does get plenty of exercise outside the cage about 3-4 hours a day. I actually prefer NIC storage cube cage over xpen. I used as her bottom a plastic tray from a dog crate walmart or petco sells them by there self. the tray doesn’t quite fit the whole cage so the other part I put a large straw mat I ordered off bunnybytes it fits perfectly then I put her litterbox over that. It has worked out perfectly for her!

Oh and some of those people are syaing that you need to get them 4 hours of excercise a day, but i think thats a bit much i mean its good but you dont have to, just take them out and snuggle and and stuff everyday and of course put them in a play pen or something but it doesnt have to be that much!!!(:

a 3×2 seems a little small in my opinion, i have a small rabbit he is around 3 and 1/2lbs and he lives in a XL dog crate (48x30x33 inches) with a second shelf. its good for lounging and sleeping in but honestly thats about it. he gets his exercise in my room (free range, but my room is small) and he seems fine. however i got my xpen today (yay) but its raining today so my plans are ruined lol. i planned on taking him outside so he can get even more exercise and enjoy the outdoors.

I also used to think that 4 hours of play seemed like alot. But now after seeing my bunny run around i realized how much she needed it! Sitting in a cage all day with no room to run  is tough!

I definitely think 4 hours is a minimum time. Mine are out generally 6 hours a day I can’t imagine giving them less. I don’t supervise them while they’re out – once your house is bunny proofed and you learn their habits (and how destructive they are) you can leave them to run around while you cook dinner, take a walk, read a book in another room, etc. For a bunny that will only get 3-4 hours of time out of a cage I would recommend no smaller than 4’x4′. A smaller cage might work if the bunny is out 12+ hours a day, but not if it’s only for a quick run for a couple hours.

Just think of it like a dog or a cat. Dogs are fine in a crate for a few hours during the day, but you’d never think of putting your dog in a crate and only letting him out to play for 3 hours in the evening.

i would recommend a cage with a pen attached… but they do need lots of space. my rabbit is free-roam so he does not have a cage or a pen, just a corner of the apartment with his litter box, food, water, hay. i would say 4 hours of free run is definitely the minimum. rabbits were built to run around! cages just aren’t ideal for them.
