The rabbit rescue I’m helping is going to the 85th annual pet expo in Milwaukee in February and they asked for my help.  They are trying to find small things to sell to raise some money while they are there.  So far I am going to be bagging up some 1 and 2 pound bags of hay cubes.

Any ideas for other items we could make or resell?

My bunnies LOVE those dried banana’s and apples you make! What about hay?

cupcakes with a huge pile of frosting shaped like a bunnytail.
every guy will buy one,, and every guy will buy a 2nd one saying his wife will eat it, but then they’ll end up eating it when the wife complains it has too many calories.

Cupcakes are a great idea! Not sure how much room they have since they take a lot of the rabbits with them.
I’m looking into the cost of dried fruit and if it will profitable for them to sell. I’d love to do hay for them but it’s VERY hard to find any good fresh hay near us. =(

Food. Seriously. My uncle owns a fishing tackle business, and one year when I was I kid, I bought too many girl scout cookies to sell. I set up with him at his table at a fishing expo. He made more sales than usual that day, and I sold my cookies.

I’ll ask them if they are allowed to sell food for humans. I’m not sure if they can and they would have to have another volunteer to make them because I am not able to have wheat flour in my kitchen due to food allergies. It’s an awesome idea though. Thanks for the advice guys! =)

you could make toys out of cardboard tubes and boxes. It would be cheap and mostly just take your time. I’m sure there are lazy people would love to buy stuff instead of making it themselves!

Bunny treat bags! Fill paper bags with hay and small treats like dried fruit, flower petals and apple twigs and tie with a piece of hay or sisal. I make these for my buns all the time. You can even throw in a little toy like a jingle bell. You could sell them cheap so even poor bunny owners could buy them!

This costs money, but not much, what about buying a couple cement forms for like, 5 bucks each and cutting them into 3 inch slices? My buns have some that they love to chew and throw around, and you could get a lot for that size. You can also go to somewhere like BJ’s or Sams and ask if they’ll donate their boxes, they usually have a ton, and you can make some fun houses/tunnels out of those. I’d probably pay a buck for a box if I didn’t already have access to them, but even then I might since its for a good cause

The dog rescue I follow on facebook sold a LOT of custom jewelry their last fundraiser, they had little earrings shaped like dog paws and others that were just normal. Every single pair sold and had like 3-4 people bidding on each. You can get kits for them at crafting stores (or costco/sams club).

Other than that – home made rabbit treats (organic), dried fruit bags, little paper bags filled with hay and herbs that are safe for buns and tied up cutely with a bow, cardboard boxes (subway and places like that have TONS of them each week when they get their delivery in and will save them for you and food-quality so safe) cause we all know how much bunnies love cardboard toys, etc.

LOL I read the first sentence and was like-omg hay cubes-get those and repackge! lol

I’d take hay and put in brown paper bags with some treats in them. Mine just love them, and how simple! You could also pick up pine, spruce and balsa and sissel rope from hardware store and craft store, and perhaps some natural paper. Then make lovely dangly rabbit toys!

Ensure anything you do is something you’ve purchased before, or check with a vet to ensure it’s safe. List all ingredients on the label, even if something is safe doesn’t mean all pets will react to it the same and the owner should have some info to go to the vet with just in case! (think bakesale-list all ingredients). If you are going to make cookies use all stainless steel so there is no chance of cross contamination (again…just for the purchaser’s sake!)

Another thing you could do is get a bunch of faux sheepskin from the fabric store and cut and sew cute blankets (all you’d have to do is edge the edges) -or stuff them with stuffing and make beds!

Hmmmm and lastly perhaps get grass seeds, and planters and sell ‘grow your own bunny grass’ kits? Cute pots and seeds with some dirt-dirt is dirt cheap you could buy big bag and make lots of kits, and if you got cheap cute pots you could probably get 5-10x what you invest to put them together.

Cause I have a parrot, I try to find as many homemade foraging toy ideas I can think of. So I just thought, if it can work for a parrot, it can work for a bun. Here is a site I find helpful! There are some ideas that can be used for buns, I think.
