Most boxes are glued at one edge, into a square. I’m guessing yours isn’t? You can always use a screwdriver to poke holes and sew it together with sisal

I know what you mean, because I tore away the tape from a box I’m using for Sammy on all but the back and bottom sides that she won’t be able to get at.

One way to keep a box untaped is to fold the flaps so they overlap like a pinwheel. Hard to describe but I’ll try: you lower a flap. Then the next side to the right you lower the flap and bend only half of it to slide under the first. Then rotate the box again, take the other half and do the same. Do that all the way around the box so you have a half flap showing and a half flap underneath. Make sense? If you force it, it stays together by its own pressure. No tape needed. I only found one pix to illustrate, so if you ignore the red circle and caption and just look at the box you’oll see I am recommending Quarter Folding.

            no quarter folding

I would be worried that a bunny could get his/her head caught in a box that’s been closed with a 1/4 fold.

1/4 fold is sturdy and solid when you push down on it, but if a bunny sticks his head up from below the flaps spread apart. When the bunny tries to pull his head back down though, the downward pressure will close the flaps. This will tighten the box opening around bunny’s neck!

                thanks for the suggestion guys!

RabbitPam – LOL yes that picture is quite misleading. i skimmed it and I was like… wait i thought she was FOR the folding?!

Actually I would want to keep both the top and the bottom parts of the box open and laying the box on the side so the buns can run through it, like a tunnel But since I’ve removed all the tape, the box just collapses into flat-storage mode.

My solution right now is just tying one side to the cage and folding in one of the flaps so it gives the box some structure… but any other ideas would be great!

You could cut the open/close part so it closes like the 1/4 above, but is only like, an inch thick, if you tied the corners together it would make a support for it to stay open….

you could put newpaper roll or tp roll cut to fit the width of the box and use it like a column to keep it upright but it would have to be bigger for them to run in it too.

Eepster I don’t think that would be possible. I’ve made quarter flaps, and the bunny might be able to pop it open by pushing up, but once opened, it is really really hard to get it to quarter fold back again. They fling apart. The flaps would just come back down normally.

Putting the box on its side is a good idea. You can keep one or two flaps for support. One idea would be to poke holes in adjacent sides/flaps and run a zip tie through them to hold in place. Zip ties are safe.
