What do you mean “bedding”? Such as Carefresh, Yesterday’s News, etc? In that case, bedding and litter are interchangeable and the same thing, since you should only have it in the littler tray. There is no need to have the whole cage covered in it, that would make things more confusing.

Rabbits kind of naturally litter train themselves, especially if they are spayed/neutered. They tend to go in once place. Of course sometimes that is where you put the litterbox, sometimes that is where you need to put the litterbox. lol.

Here’s what it came down to for me: since my rabbit like most likes corners, as most do, I put something in every corner in his play area/cage. He finally caught on that way. Sometimes more than one litter box helps too depending on size of area he’s kept in majority of the time. If mine had a free corner he would go there instead of his box.

Also, from what I have read, Panda is an unneutered male? And you recently acquired another bunny? You might be against an uphill battle if you try to litter train him right now. His hormones will make it much hard to litter train him. While there are some that have unneutered bunnies that litter train, if he hasn’t already, he probably won’t until he is neutered.

Oh yes, def try, just don’t have too high of expectations. It would be unfair for both of you to expect him to be consistent with it, though hopefully he will get it right at least sometimes. Good luck!

Sounds great! I can’t think of anything else you would need to do. Just as long as the litterbox is big enough for him to comfortably use, you should be off to a good start!

I would at least wait overnight. I think the true sign of success is peeing in it. And mine has an iron bladder so I would give him the night to get used to it and so you don’t go crazy waiting.

Great advice – keep any bedding confined to his litter box and hopefully he’ll get the hang of it. With bedding all over the cage bunnies really don’t know where they’re supposed to go (it’s like someone putting you in a room with 20 toilets and expecting you to only use one – how would you ever know which one was right?). Just clean up any messes he makes and hopefully he’ll get the hang of using the area that you’ve prepared with absorbent litter. Make sure there’s plenty of hay in the litter box – bunnies love to use the bathroom when hay is involved.

There is hope! Tait litter trained himself like a dream as a baby and kept it through the beginning of puberty until he was neutered. My new bunny (3 yrs, unneuterable) is slowly getting there. He had zero idea when I first go him and in his cage he is great, minus a few scattered pops and during free time he 90% pees in the box with a couple accidents and leaves territorial poos around. Free time litter habits are getting better and better though

yeah the poo things are marking behavior. Mine’s not fixed yet and does it too. We gotta sweep under the bed today But it’s way easier to clean up lil droppings then to clean up urine stains so keep it up!

Are the poos scattered right by the litter box? Or all over? Mine always kick a fair amount out of their litter boxes by accident, so I just pick them up and put them back in.

If he’s pooping all over, then he’s marking his territory and it will hopefully lessen after neutering.

If it’s right around the litterbox, then he’s probably just accidentally dragging the poo out of the litterbox on his feet – nothing to worry about. Most of us here consider a rabbit to be 100% litter trained if they always pee in the box and keep about 95% of the poo in there. There will always be some dragged out.
