I have a large cage with a dog excercise pen securely attatched where my rabbit can romp around freely all day. The problem is that she chews carpet so I have no where else besides the concrete ( isn’t good for their hocks ) I have tried putting rugs and towels down but she just tries to eat them! I can’t lay hay down either. ( in my dad’s basement ) I try to take her out of her cage regulary, but it still isn’t good for her all day. I’m desperate. Please help. I’m 14 so not many options. Help is appreciated.

How about a piece of wood covered with stick on vinyl squares? Ply wood is fairly cheep and so are squares. Most hardware stores will even cut the wood to size for you for a minimumal charge.

Ooh I just read something about good flooring… Someone here uses a thick rubber flooring used for garages? It’s bunny-un-chewable, but much softer than cement, and I think its fairly inexpensive.

Anything I could possibly find around the house? I live on a horse farm. Good ideas though ^

I would just get a piece of linoleum cut to size at a home improvement store.

This is what her cage looks like. ( Boring, I know, I’m still working on it )

If she chews carpet, you can get a large carpet protector like for chairs and just make sure the _edges_ make it out to the end of the x-pen so she can’t get to them to chew, no way to dig it up she won’t be able to get a grip and it’ll protect the carpet. Or linoleum, or coroplast, or… anything large enough to put the edges out of the x-pen that is flat.

                      Very spacious cage/setup! .

You said you live on a horse farm.  Got any spare stall mats around that are too worn out for the stall?  They’re kinda heavy, but you could cut it to fit and that would probably work well.

Otherwise I agree on the buying some linoleum at Home Depot or Lowes or Menards, etc.  It’s really cheap (I’m poor, and I could afford it ) and works great for buns who want to eat everything they can sink their little teeth into.  Zeus is the same way.

You also might look into just laying down a couple fleece blankets and washing them, often if they are soiled, less often if they aren’t. Cement forms from the hardware store are about 8 bucks for a large one, that would make a great tunnel and a bit of fun.

Does she have hay in there? The pic is a little pixelly so I can’t tell?

I’m currently going through a very similar situation if you read my thread… Does yours chew cloth too? I feel bad not giving him anything soft to sit on but he eats everything! lol. I did the sheet vinyl, it would work well over cement (not carpet like mine) but we cut it in our basement and when I walked on it, it did add little cushion. If yours doesn’t eat cloth you could add towels and blankets for grip and hock reasons. And if she can have blankets, I love the remnants section at JoAnns = super cheap fleece for Bun.

I use grass mats and coconut fiber mats for Zeus.. softish, and if he eats it, it’s ok.

How about straw mats I use straw mats the floor of my rabbits cage or you can use a plastic tray from a dog crate I use that as well. Both have worked wonders right now for me! Hope things work out!
