We are leaving today for 10 days to visit family, we are going by plane so he couldn’t come with us. My fiances parents will be watching him and I have him set up in the big bathroom upstairs with plenty of stuff to do, and showed his mom how to take care of him.

I hope he doesn’t miss me too much and that he is okay, I am the only person he really trusts and is attached to.

I got him a fleece blanket and used it for a few weeks so it would have my scent on it and he has been snuggling on it. I wonder if he knows I am leaving because I’ve been spending lots of time with him this morning and he laid on the blanket I put on the bookshelf he likes to lay on because its at my level when I sit on the floor with him, he kept bumping my hand for ear rubs and when I was done he leaned over and bumped my cheek and nose with his nose.  I was like “Goblin, you are going to make mommy cry”

Aw…I know it’s hard to leave. A couple of years ago I went to Florida for 8 days and it was REALLY hard. He’ll be okay. Just make sure you advised his caregivers on what to do if he’s not eating and emergency numbers, etc.

Have a nice trip and try not to worry!

Make a CHECKLIST for your care givers so they have a physical copy of instructions in case they forget anything. Also, be sure to add amounts of food to give to the instructions. Also, make sure the emergency vets number is there along with your real vet.

But he’ll be fine – I know it’s hard to leave them, but just think how many binkies he’ll do when you get back and he’s all excited to see you.

The blankie that smells like you is a good idea. I used to tie a worn knee sock (p.u.!) to Spockie’s cage and he would lick it. Ewe.

But he ended up liking the caregivers as well, so he was content from then on when I left him the next year, they loved him, and it all went very well.

If you didn’t give a list in writing now, not to worry. Just email them a little document with a checklist written out of their daily routine for Goblin, what to remember to do and not to do, and your phone number, vet’s number, and anything else you want them to know. Like Thank You!
