A friend of ours who also runs a large animal feed store (which also has bunny stuff) reccommended putting baking soda in the litterbox to help with the smell. I usually use that or vinager to clean the cage really well but I was wondering if this would be okay at maybe the bottom and then cover it with our usual bedding. If not maybe I’ll try a different bedding

I used to  use carefresh-got too expensive and now i use a kiln dried cedar bedding- smell christmas-y)

On an unrelated note: I watched The Christmas Bunny after someone on here said it was good…and I cried like a baby. The ending was sooo cute. The person said it was sad…but i totally underestimated how sad it is…but I am a bit of a cry baby. (I cry EVERY SINGLE TIME I watch lion king…)

I wouldn’t, unless there is absolutely no way for your bunny to get to it. It’s not good for bunnies to eat or inhale, and we all know bunnies tend to taste things…

Best thing for smell is to clean the box frequently.

Nope, its not safe for buns. Just use less litter, I barely cover the bottom of the pan, and then I dump every day and a half ish.

I doubt baking soda would actually help with the smells anyway. Maybe in a bowl in the room to absorb odour but that’s it. Rabbit pee is alkaline so soda won’t help neutralise it.

Cedar is not that good an option sorry. Being kiln-dried, it probably has removed a lot of the harmful oils. If you can still smell the bedding, bunny can even more. Their sense of smell is really, really good.

Have you tried aspen shavings? It supposed to be good for odours. Does Bud use a litterbox? If so, you can stop using bedding altogether and save dollars and time!

he does, i put the shavings in the litter box.
I guess her logic was they use it in cat litter so it would work for bunnies…

                i havent tried aspen….ill get that next…

Bud seems to pee alot more than halo did which is wierd cause bud is 5lbs and halo was like 15-20lbs. better get him a checkup.
Anyone here live in or around Williamsport,pa and could reccomend a good vet? thank you!

Oh yeah, cedar shavings are a BIG no-no. Definitely switch litter!
