Well. That was anticlimactic. Not that I’m complaining!
Started in the bathtub, as I saw recommended. Each tried to jump out, they spent a few minutes ignoring each other, and then Sophie went to the top of the tub, looked at me and peed, sending it downhill and soaking both of their feet. End session.
Okay, fine. Let’s try some light stress bonding. Except… Liam isn’t scared of anything.
In the car:
Sophie: OMG this is so scary, I hate the car!!!
Liam: *flop*
At boyfriend’s house, barking puppy in another room:
Sophie: Mom, this sucks! I’m not leaving the litterbox. *thump*
Liam: *grooms*
Vacuum:
Sophie: WAH!!!!
Liam: I wish I had taken a picture. The vaccum was literally touching the x-pen, Liam was sitting there with his chest all puffed out and majestic, the breeze from the vacuum ruffling his fur.
After a week of either humping or ignoring in the face of stress, I made the executive decision, that since there had been ZERO aggression from either bun, they were just gonna have playtime in the bunny room and I’d scoop Liam up if he got too obnoxious. A few days later, they got overnights, and now they’re together full time. Every once in a while Liam seems to remember that he used to have hormones and should probably hump her, just to keep up appearances, but otherwise they groom and snuggle and are basically inseparable.
