This is about a cat, not a bunny. I trust you all so I wanted to ask the BBers since a lot of you have other animals too.

My mom’s cat has had really bad hair balls lately. He is constantly making a gagging noise. I bought the kitty version of laxatone for him and she gave him the max dose for the week. He is still gagging though. Can she give the cat more than the recommended dose? Would pineapple juice work for a cat like it does for a rabbit? Any suggestions?

He is still eating/drinking/and going to the bathroom but when he eats, if he is only able to eat a very small portion, he is ok, but if he is given a lot of food at once, he pukes it back up.

Since he isn’t able to really keep food down, I’d think a vet visit is in order. Probably not the answer you want to hear, but it sounds like he is not eating normally. (((Hugs)))

I know that the more water a cat drinks the less they throw up.

My brother had several cats and one of them had trouble eating. It was important that she be diagnosed by the vet to know the cause. You don’t necessarily know that it’s fur balls causing it, and if the Laxatone is not working I suspect there’s something else going on. (Like a growth, or a closure of some kind in her esophagus.)

My brother’s cat ended up needing to eat standing up on her hind legs which made her stretch straight up and therefore food went down more easily, but I wouldn’t recommend that for you now. It just shows that a solution may be very different than what you expect until after you get a diagnosis.

              Please see a vet.

Thank you. I thought it would mean a vet visit, just wanted to check.
