Just wanted to give you guys some good news because I know a lot of you helped me out and talked to me when I was really down. I took your guys’ advise, I’m moving out! My husband and I talked and realized our relationship is mostly pleasing and helping his parents and it caused us so much stress so we’re leaving in January. This week I’m going to 30+ vet hospitals/clinics to find an entry level job and head to college to become a vet tech. I’m so much happier knowing we’ll be out soon. Only problem is the dog, a lot of places don’t take dogs and if they do it more expensive so I gotta look around real hard cuz we can only afford $400-$900.

Thanks again! If you guys didn’t talk to me I don’t think I would of had the courage to confront my husband AND his parents. : )

Glad you convinced him to move – just remember, once this reason is taken away don’t just keep piling up new excuses for him, confront him when he treats you badly and show him you won’t take it. Good luck!

                Awesome!!!

Sometimes places will take a pet deposit and let you rent there. Ensure you get it in writting that you are allowed your pets, before you move in…a mistake I made… Good luck hunting for apartments!

That’s great! You can really begin to work on your relationship and your future once you’re out on your own!

That’s good news. Also, don’t rule out renting a privately owned house right now. Be careful because most people don’t know how to be landlords, but you can find some very nice places that haven’t sold that owners are willing to rent to a nice couple instead. Just get it in writing, make sure everyone knows who is responsible for repairs, utilities etc. and pets are allowed, also in writing. (Don’t go with a house that’s on the market, though.)

I’ve known several couples who moved away from all their parents during the first year of their marriage on purpose. It really helps to be on your own together, especially when you have so much you need to get to know after your whirlwind courtship. Set your boundaries of what is and is not OK in his treatment of you and his behavior, and he will learn to respect you as his wife, not his maid or dumping ground.
                      Good luck!

That is really good news. Sounds like you are making some real positive steps. I am so proud of this community of people who supported and rallied around you. Good for you to take the steps to make your life better all around!

Oh, and to add…sometimes places a bit further out are cheaper, and if you can get a place close to the bart lines, then it may make communiting easier if you have to go that route.

That is great news! You might be surprised about the pet thing, my apartment manager was really nice and didn’t make me pay for a pet deposit for two cats just because she liked me! So who knows what you might find!
