  I’ve recently been thinking about the fact that I would really like to get Oreo accustomed to being around dogs. Next summer I’ll either be moving into an apartment on my own and would like to get a dog or else I’ll be moving in with a friend who has a dog. So I thought it would be good to have my friend bring her dog over to my current apartment to meet Oreo. Her dog, McGyver, is a mutt that she rescued, about 2 yrs old, well trained, fixed and current on all of his vaccines and whatnot. I’ve hung out with Oreo after playing with McGyver and she didn’t act any different to his smell on my hands/clothes.
  
  My question is how do I go about introducing them? I don’t want to push things too far and of course want to have Oreo’s best interest in mind at all times. Any tips on how to approach this? I know that the situation really depends on each invidual rabbit/dog but any general ideas or what worked for you would help!

  My dog visited the rabbit from his cage for a few days, then I just let him out and she never really cared about him, as far as she is concerned he doesn’t exist most of the time, but she is old and uncaring lol.

  You really have to make sure the dog won’t go after Oreo. The best thing would be to have the dog on a leash and at a distance at first. My dog personally has never shown any interesting in hunting, chasing, or herding other animals, but that’s usually not the case. Just be super careful! Things can go wrong before you have any time to do anything about it.

  My rabbits grew up with cats and dogs, so they never had a fear of them. Hyper dogs they tend to stay away form, but they love calmer and gentle dogs. When I adopted Philly I muzzled him and introduced him to the bunnies. Since they were used to dogs the bunnies were free roaming and I kept Philly’s eye contact. Then When I allowed him to see the bunnies (on my command), he didn’t want to hurt then. I then unMuzzled him (he was still on a leash in case I had to pull him away) I did what I did when he was muzzled. Soon he was fine enough to take the leash off. He had to be under my command though.
  
  That’s what I did to get a dog used to the buns. With the Buns they were always used to dogs. I would start introducing your buns to calmer dogs and in save environments.
