So, last night he decided since he can’t jump over his x-pen, he would jump on his house. So I put a sheet over the entire thing before I went to bed. Then this morning he was flopped in the middle of his pen, and while I was preparing his breakfast I turned around and he was standing on his cage again watching me! He just crawled under the sheet to get to the top of his cage again.

So I decided to remodel, since it was only a matter of time that he would jump from his cage to the counter nearby. I put a rug over his cage, if he is determined to sit up there I rather his feet not fall through the bar and hurt himself.

Hahaha when a bunny gets a thought in his head, you might as well just give up, you have no power over him.

lol yep, I had the same problem with Moose when he had a little cage in his pen And he learned once to jump from the floor of the pen to the back of the couch… we had to move his pen, cuz once he figured that out, there was no keeping him in lol.

Hehe when I tried to get Powder to stay in an x-pen he climbed on top of it, then sat on the bars (yes, those little tiny thin bars… he looked like a cat clinging for dear life to the top of a fence) waiting for me to help him get down since it was too far to jump. Bunnies are great at escaping.

Haha yeah, when I saw how close that was I was going to ask if he was a jumper but I didn’t. Samson loves being on top of her cage, I use a screen for a aquarium covered with fleece, but cardboard covered in fabric would work well too

I use some NIC grids on top of the cage, around the front, to keep Hannah from jumping up there. I realized she was getting up there because one morning I came downstairs and she was out of the pen, trying to get back in. lol They’re smart!

I currently have my bunny in just a cage, It’s a rather large cage, not like the one you have in the picture. But I still feel incredibly bad about this. And I can’t do what I’m doing now which is letting her run around in the bathroom with me in their for at least an hour or two a day. I’m a new bunny owner but after reading lots on this forum I’d really like to build her a little pen like that.
Where did you get the wire/metal caging?

Lydia, what kind of cage do you have?

Nava lived in a long ferret cage. I took it down and stretched out the bars, making it a large pen.

Lydia, you can find excercise pens, or ex pens at most pet stores and a lot of online retailers as well such as Amazon. Ideally try to get one that’s at least 36″ tall or you might have a bunny running around in the middle of the night!
