Well, it turns out that Toffee’s problem did seem to be her teeth (at least we hope).
When I took her in last week, the vet said her teeth looked fine but she was a bit painful in her back area somewhere and to give her metacam.
Since she still was not eating as voraciously as she normally did (she has only been eating about 1/4 of the greens that she normally would) I took her back and my regular vet was back from maternity leave.
She said that first she would do x-rays, then check her teeth and possibly sedate her to really check her teeth. Turns out she has a bit or arthritis but not major but the real problem seemed to be her teeth.
The vet said that just looking with the otoscope, her teeth appeared fine, but she wanted to sedate her to really exam them. She said there were definite sharp points so she filed them down. Apparently some of the vet techs got to watch and learn about rabbit teeth as well and they all said she had sharp points on her teeth when they felt them as well.
Now Toffiee has not appeared to have eaten yet and hopefully she will be fully recovered by the time I get home or I’ll have to hand feed her with critical care and I really don’t want to if I don’t have to, so I’m hoping she’ll eat some of the greens I left her or some of the pellets that I decided to put down for her. I think she’ll be easy to hand feed though since she’s pretty easy to handle.
So please some vibes that Ms. Toffee will recover quickly and eat on her own please.
good grief, Sarita, it’s time the bunny gods cut you a little bit of slack! I’m glad to hear she is going to be ok after the filing, here’s hoping her appetite picks up and you’re spared the forced feeding. Those dirty looks I always got when I had to do that, yikes.
Is Ms. Toffee one of your dutchies?
((((eating vibes)))))
Toby’s in for his teeth clipping today, luckily it goes pretty smoothly. They say the don’t even trance him anymore, as soon as he hears the dremel and they touch his lip with a finger he opens right up. And comes home smelling of different perfumes because they carry him around all day 😉
That’s funny about Toby :~) I bet he loves going to the vets and getting loved on….I’m sure Pringles doesn’t appreciate all those women flirting with her man though!
Toffee is an agouti mix. She used to have a partner, Twizzler. She’s probably about 8 or 9 as well. She’s pretty spry for her age too.
Vibes for Miss Toffee that she will recover quick and eat all her veggies she needs without needing to be hand-fed! Feel good, Toffee!
aww hope miss toffee gets well soon! ![]()
wow, 8 or 9, it’s amazing your bunnies live to such ages in the good health they enjoy. I remember Ms Twizzler! and dear Pepe! Good thing I didn’t see your agouti at the sanctuary or I would have had a matched set.
Pringles doesn’t mind much, but you can tell Daisy is really put out about having to groom him all night until it looks like a big dog has slobbered all over him to get the scents off.
Does Miss Toffee like things like applesauce and pumpkin?
Get well soon Toffee! Eat your noms like a good girl.
Lol! Poor Daisy having all that work to do ![]()
Vibes to Toffee-bun! Hannah won’t eat after a procedure either so I know how stressful it is. I hope Toffee eats on her own soon!
Get well soon Toffee!
Sending vies for Toffee – and some for you too! You could definitely use a break from the bunny-stress!

I hope Toffee gets better soon! (((((healing vibes)))))
Oh dear, I just saw this now. Many healing and nomming vibes for dear Toffee!
Sending vibes your way, Sarita! Maybe since I’m a vet student my healing vibes will be stronger somehow lol

I was going to slap my forehead and yell “oh no!” until I read through your post about Ms. Toffee.
I am sooooooo glad that you insisted on bringing her in once your fav. vet was back. They could learn a lot from you, too.
Even more glad that she has been properly diagnosed and treated.
Let’s see some chowing down of those greens, Madame Toffee!

Kralspace, I’m not sure if she likes pumpkin or applesauce, I’ve never offered it to her. I did end up hand feeding her last night and got the stink eye.
I do think she is eating the Critter Be Better pellets though. I put down a huge pile today for her along with her greens. She seems perky enough so I’m hoping by tomorrow she will be back to eating her greens. I imagine her mouth is tender still although I’m giving her metacam as well. Seems like she wants to eat her greens too, maybe she will have been able to eat them today.
Thank you for the vibes!
Sarita, how are Mango and Miss Toffee doing today? Hate to bug you, but we get worried when it’s quiet.
Fiver’s last dental was done by our amazing Dr. B. (one of her last before leaving the state) and even with her special care, he was pretty sore for a few days. I think some buns are just more sensitive to this procedure.
I do hope Toffee is doing better now.
((((((((((((((((more vibes)))))))))))))))))
Thanks everyone – she’s still not eating so I started her on reglan. I’m hoping today is the day she starts eating…
((((((((healing vibes))))))))) I hope she gets better soon!
(((Healing vibes for Toffee))). Hopefully her appetite will pick up today. I just read a little about the procedure she had done, and it sounds like it often takes them a couple of days to start eating again. You and Toffee will be in my thoughts. It’s so scary when they aren’t eating.
More vibes for Toffee…c’mon sweetie, eat something for your mum! (((((((((((((nomnomnomnom)))))))))))))))
I think she’s about close to normal finally! I’ve been putting down pellets for her and she is eating those and she is finally eating her carrots as well. Of course since she’s eating more pellets, she’s eating less veggies so I’ll slowly wean her off those pellets. I can definitely tell she’s eating more pellets (well, mainly because they are gone) and her poo’s are a lighter brown like the pellets.
I guess it was just a longer recovery time because her mouth was still sore…I also started her on reglan which I should have right after the procedure and I think that helped get her gut moving too.
Yea!!!
Ms. toffee is not allowed to feel sick today. All bunnies are going to be happy and healthy today.
I have spoken. ![]()
(bows to RabbitPam)
Yea!!!!! we has input and output, what else can you ask of a bunny!! So happy to hear about Ms. Toffee, Sarita, you must be really relieved! (as is Ms Toffee if the poo report is true!)
that’s good news sarita! glad she’s getting back to normal =)
Wonderful! I am so glad to hear she’s recovering!!

Excellent news!
So glad to hear she is eating again! ![]()
Well, I decided to take her back to the vet today because while she’s eating her pellets, she’s shunning her greens and some of her treats which I think is very odd. We are going to do bloodwork and the vet wants me to try greens from a different store to see if she is being picky.
It’s just very odd to me to not eat greens when that is usually what you eat. I may end up just feeding her those darn pellets if that is what she is going to eat and forget the greens….I guess it’s just wait and see what the bloodwork says.
While it’s worrisome for a bun to change it’s eating habits at any time, I have noticed that my buns are not happy with produce much these days either and frequently snub my offerings. I thought it was because it didn’t match up to their wild forage or that they were trying to adjust to their winter diet. But the quality of what we get here is poor in any case. Shipping this far doesn’t treat vegetables kindly.
Sending vibes and hoping for good news on the bloodwork. ((((((((((Toffee))))))))))
We are at a loss as to what the problem is with Ms. Toffee – perhaps just old age. Her white blood cells were slightly elevated so we are going to start her on baytril. She’s not losing weight so that’s good. I guess since everything has been ruled out at this point we are just going to let her eat what she wants (pellets) and go from there.
((((((((((((((((Still sending vibes))))))))))))))))))))))
Also sending best wishes for Ms Toffee, maybe she is of the age where she can ‘dang well eat what she wants’. Old age does have a few benefits, as I’m beginning to find out…lol
Let us know how you guys are doing, Sarita, Happy Thanksgiving

Toffee definitely deserves it! I hope she starts feeling better very soon.

I don’t know how I’ve missed this post!

Gotta get better for Christmas, Toffee!!!
Thanks for all the vibes. Ms. Toffee is finally eating greens! Not sure if it’s because of the antibiotics or the 2nd tooth filing – think it’s a bit of both though. I’ve also allowed her access to the whole rabbit room and maybe that helped – it didn’t help me, because she poops everywhere! But during the work week she will go back to her pen and then out at night when I’m home. I guess the other buns are getting used to her being out, although they do their territorial poops in their condo/pens…not a big deal at all though since I vacuum twice a day.
vibes prayers n love for toffee those teeth can really be a pain
Well, I’m going to ask for more vibes for Ms. Toffee…she seems to have stopped eating those darn greens again…she is eating her pellets and I’m totally fine with this but I’m still concerned that she is changing her diet again. The vet said that as long as she’s eating something she feels okay with this and I’m fine with it too as long as she keeps eating!!!
Oh dear….more vibes for Ms. Toffee….(((((((((((good eating vibes))))))))))
What is going on with these bunnies? Mimzy’s being fickle with his food too.
At least pellets seem to be acceptable, thank goodness!
Eating vibes for Toffee! I’m glad she’s eating pellets. Have you tried Italian parsley as greens? Petie LOVES that, maybe Ms. Toffee would too.
((((((Toffee)))))) Get well for Christmas, baby!
Thanks everyone. Lashkay, I will give the Italian Parsley a try, thank you!
