I am thinking about re-doing Hazel’s housing situation. Currently she has a cage with a plastic bottom that is 40 inches long and 11/2 feet wide and 11/2 feet high. It also has a ramp and shelf for a second level. Since Hazel is a small (2 lb) rabbit, she has room to stretch out and flop, plus room for her litterbox and extra space. It is also tall enough to fully stand. She is in the cage for sleeping and when I am at school; otherwise she is out in the living room with me when I’m home. However, I would like to get her something bigger, because I want her to have more space to move around in during days when I am at school for long periods of time. I really want to get her an x-pen that I can set up in the living room for her. Do you have any brands to recommend? I looked on Amazon but there are so many different types. I wasn’t sure how small the spaces between the wires had to be. I don’t have a ton of space in my living room, unfortunately (I live in a 1 bedroom apartment), so I need something that will provide space for exercise but can also be taken down if I have company over. I can use her cage as a home base and just include it in the x-pen or attach the x-pen to it. Any ideas on what kind to get? Thanks so much!

I use the Midwest walk-through xpen. The main differences are gong to be height and ]that some have a door opening that goes all the way to the top (walk-through), others only have a small square that opens in the middle so only the pet can jump in and out. I like the walk-through gate since I use it as permanent housing. I can walk inside to feed or clean up without taking the pen apart. For height, I would not recommend anything shorter than 36 inches, 42 inches if your bun is a jumper. When set up square, all xpens are 4×4 feet standard. You can either attach it to the cage temporarily, or leave it as the habitat 24/7.

Beka27-Is this what you’re talking about? I know it’s only 30 inches high, but my bun is a tiny Dwarf that doesn’t really have much of a penchant for jumping. I believe this one is also a walk-through type.

I think I’ll probably get the same Midwest brand xpen (link above), but 36 inches. Just in case. You know those sneaky bunbuns….

I also have a Midwest xpen (though I’m not using it right now as he has free roam of a couple rooms). Definitely buy the highest possible…I have the 36″, Totoro cleared it, I learned the hard way haha.

I have the midwest 48″ pen. My girl’s a super jumper and I wanted to be able to put the maze haven in her pen.

Woohoo, I bought one! I got the 36”, we’ll see if she tries anything. I’m going to work her cage into too to make a sweet little setup. I’m so excited that she’ll have more room! YAY!

You’ll love the x-pens. They are so easy to maintain and keep the area clean.

Even if your current bunny is not a jumper, who knows if you may get a second at some point who does jump… or you may want to use this xpen in many, many years for a new bunny. They last years, very high quality.
