  I know this came up not too long ago, but I cannot find the thread. I just took in 3 one month very neglected buns. They have hair loss on their feet, it is pathetic. With them being babies, obviously they don’t have great litter habits. Anyone know where I can find (affordable) sheepskin for them to rest their itty bitty feets, yet be comfortable and dry if they pee on it? thanks!

  Oh my!!
  What about just using fleece? You can get a couple fleece blankets from Walmart for about 5 bucks, cut them up and then wash and alternate. Or use a puppy pad, those are meant to wick away.

  I don’t know where you could get skeepskin for semi-cheap :S I’ve only seen for like $80 for a small piece. Would a fake one work?? Obviously not as soft, but as another option?
  
  P.S. You’re AWESOME for taking these guys in!!! They are super cute and I bet they will make a speedy recovery with you looking after them What’s their story?

  I actually have some fleece pads that my mom made for our guinea pigs, so I have been using those. I just heard the sheepskin worked really well and thought they might feel a bit safer on something soft and fuzzy.

  Their story is a bit sketchy. A neighbor of one of our volunteers got them from either someone she knows or someones house she was at. They came to the rescue looking very greasy, we are not sure what it is. It is disgusting. Their feet and ears have no fur. They have settled in nicely and just seem to know they are safe now. When I was putting in clean pedialyte and pellets they were all coming over to me and letting me pet them (at the rescue they were running from me). They will stay with me for as long as they need to.
  
  I am also rehabbing 2 cottontails. So, I have a house fun of wiggly bunny noses!!

  Might I suggest that if they have fur loss on their little feet, to completely cover, or remove, that wire floor? It’s hard enough of healthy feet, never mind these poor babies neglected little toes

  You might be able to use a tiny bit of Dawn verrrry carefully on their fur since its so greasy, I know rescues use that on ducks and other wild animals.

  I have seagrass on the entire floor, except for under the litter box and right where the food and water is (because I need to get another square). Thanks for your suggestion, but I completely have their precious feets in mind when housing them (hence another reason I want the sheepskin)

  Yes, they will be bathed, but not until they settle in for a few days. I don’t want to stress them out and with being brought from crappy enviroment, to the rescue, to my house … well that is enough for a few days. I have the Dawn ready for spa day!

  Here is a special vet fleece available in several sizes, top stays dry, fluids are wicked away, latex backed. Washable as well:

  Only problem i can see with that lash is that baby bunnies like to taste test everything.. I worry about them ingesting latex. Plain fleece that can be tossed in the wash would be better.

  Yes, MB, that’s worth asking about. I sent a question to the seller asking if the “specially formulated latex” is toxic if ingested and just what is meant by “no harmful substances” in their description. Thanks.

  Not just the toxicity, but what if it causes a blockage? Latex doesn’t break down all that easily.

  It was so great of you to take in these bunnies. A friend of mine who has a special needs bunny had been buying her synthetic sheepskin mats at local medical supply stores, but found that the mats are a lot cheaper at online medical supply sites. They come in different sizes, some are square, others are rectangular. She says that they wash very well and are almost dry when they come out of the washer. I did a search for synthetic sheepskin and several sites sell it.
  
  I hope that the 3 bunnies will thrive and find wonderful homes. Thanks again for taking them.

  Monkeybun was right, the latex backed fleece vet bed wouldn’t be good lest your babies ingest some of it.
  
  However, I bought 2 of these genuine sheepskin beds for my bunnies and they are relatively inexpensive for genuine sheepskin. I bought them in the small size. You might want to check them out:

  So far my bunny just hops on and off it but doesn’t lie down on it, probably because it’s still too warm in my place for them to want to sleep on it yet. But it’s still clean and is it ever soft!! I can recommend this item if you’re looking for relatively inexpensive genuine sheepskin beds. They have a soft no-skid bottom, nothing toxic that I can see, and so far, mine isn’t shedding at all. Their footies will love it! lol

  OMG Where do you live??? I want the gold and white one (center of last pic) looks so much like my Kokanee!! Kudos Kudos for taking them on!

  This was wonderful of you to rescue them, and I second the fabric store for getting a hunk of sheepskin without backing. I also use yards of 100% cotton flannel, which is very thin, but being cotton it is a natural fiber that can be digested if it happens. Plus there are no things to tug that is tempting to chew on (like sheepskin) so it goes down like a sheet across the whole floor area and you’re done, smoothly. Then you can put little comfy fleece beds on top, with litter pans etc.
  
  If you have a problem with incontinent bunnies due to their age or lack of training yet, you can also order chunks of sheepskin-type fabric from Palace Pet Beds, an online company. They come in different colors and sizes, can be cut with a knife or scissors to any size you need, and are machine washable. They are designed for puppies or older pets because they wick away moisture so stay dry to the feetsies. I used them for a year for Spockie when he couldn’t get into his litter pan well. The babies might want to taste them, but Spockie never did, so I wouldn’t worry too much.
  And anyway, at least one will be going to K&K’s home soon since she’s in love….
