I have had 2 Flemish Giants now. I adopted both of them. I only had Hugo for 6 weeks. Abby I have now had for 7 months.

All rabbits are different. Just like people are. So just because you have a Flemmie doesn’t mean you’re going to get a cuddly lap bunny. Some of them are spunky, feisty and hard to bunny proof for.

A large rabbit has the cost of 2-3 rabbits for all of their supplies and you have to think outside the box when buying everything for them. Rabbit supplies just don’t work.

Yes, there are health concerns with Flemish Giants. Because they are so large and usually carry excess weight they can get arthritis and other joint problems at a young age. They are also prone to heart problems and heart disease that usually goes undetected.

I could talk about flemmies all day long
My Lady is about 10 weeks now and 3 3/4 lbs. She eats A TON. Like, I’m looking to buy in bulk now because she’s a pig. She’s also a huge sweetie and has a completely different temperament than my lionhead mutt Samson. She’s more like a dog, she follows me around, lays in my lap, is just really more relaxed than I’ve ever thought a bunny could be.

I wish!! I’ve always jokingly drooled over the thought of a german continental or flemmy with a very mini horse running around the house. They eat the same thing would be about the same size lol

One day-I will have a flemmy or a german.

I do have a 10lb rabbit though He’s great but was very skittish when I initially adopted him. He’s harlequin color but not sure if in breed that’s what he is.

Im not sure what Huckleberry is, but I think the general consensus is that she is part flemmie. After meeting a boy bun recently that was purchased at the same store around the same time that looked like her twin, I am pretty sure about her being part flemmie/part rex.
She is just over a year and half now and weighs 12.5 lbs. Her presumed brother was 9 lbs.
She is wonderful! She has a big attitude but is quite the lover on her own terms. Her “brother” was nothing but a big goofy lover!
She eats soooooo much though. The vet has her on a diet to get her to lose weight but she still eats a great deal of food. She also requires a larger litter box. She does not fit in a cat litter box very well. When she decided it was too small, that was that. She would turn it upside down and throw it. I had to get creative. I got her a plastic tub used for mixing cement from Lowe’s.
I dont know about all flemmies, but she has some dental issues. I think that is more of an overall bunny problem though.

I have had 2. My fiance got Link from a breeder and we lost him to EC just after he turned a year old. It wasn’t pretty.
Then we adopted Cortana. We lost her 2 months later.

They’re lovely, sweet bunnies (especially Cortana) and I sort of long for another, but I don’t think I can stand the heartbreak again.

All of this dying early talk is depressing!

Sam and Lady. I met a Flemish Giant that was surrendered with Abby and she was 6 years old and very healthy. She was adopted a while ago and is now 7! Every rabbit is different. =)

Thanks Abby! Thats good to hear! I knew they had about half the lifespan of a smaller bunny but I never heard about so many issues until now! I hope Lady will be ok, I’m already so attached!

OMG I sooo want a flemish and always have. I finally found a place to get one in Chesterifeld MO, but now I have to wait till I find a bigger house. and then I hope that I can bond my two minni rexs with the new one. The thought on a bunny possibly letting me pet him or her is so fun, since mine wont let you unless you are giving them a treat….
