every year our family gets a live christmas tree, I plan on fencing off the area but I was curious if my bunnies did get ahold of some pine needles is it dangerous for them?

I’ve read that they aren’t poisonous, but can cause internal lacerations.

It’s also possible that the tree has been sprayed with an insecticide at some point, unless you know that it was grown organically. So that could be a danger to a rabbit if any traces remain on the needles.

I think if they nibble a few needles under a Christmas tree, but they shouldn’t be given it to chew on. You likely want to use cubes to keep bunny away. Hopefully someone who can use the search function can find our thread we post every year-it has all the info on how to proof your tree and why they can’t have it.

However pine wood-say you were buying it to build something that’s fine as long it’s untreated.

Here is the article put out by the House Rabbit Society Regarding Christmas Trees – http://www.rabbit.org/care/holidays.html

I have been told by my vet that pine needles can cause lacerations, but like KK mentioned, a few shouldn’t be a big deal.

Here is Dana Krempel answering a similar question on allexperts…http://en.allexperts.com/q/Rabbits-…s-Tree.htm

I was trying to find the thread that we normally repost from past years.  I found a few but I don’t think THE ONE… but this might be helpful.
