I am trying to dig in the creativity side of my noggin today to try to come up with some homemade toys for the bun.  Its just way too expensive trying to keep up with the teeth and attention span of a rabbit, especially a young one.  What are your great toys you all came up with?  Pictures are awesome!  Hideaways can be included in the fun.

Yes! And sometimes they don’t even pay attention to the store bought ones The easiest one I can think of is opening a phone book and laying it on the ground, bunnies LOVE to rip them to shreds. If I’m not mistaken I think there’s a thingy on homemade toys in the info section here on BinkyBunny and that would have some good ideas. Hmmmm also I’ve taken a paper bad and put a tasty treat (basil, parsley, and some hay) and folded the end, entertained Wilbur for a while lol until she destroyed it! Anything they can throw or destroy. Wilbur loves her shoebox filled with hay, she moves it around, gnaws on it, and that sits in it to have a snack

Samson and Lady couldn’t care less about the phonebook haha. They love the newspaper jellyfish though!

What is the newspaper jellyfish? Mox looves toilet paper rolls stuffed with hay.

I would love to read about the newspaper jellyfish!

The paper bag idea is great BunnyFriend! She LOVES Parsley! I tried a toilet paper roll ball, but she didnt really seem that interested. I think I might have to stuff if with something in order to make it exciting haha. I have an old text book from a college class, but is the ink in a phonebook safer than in a text book?

I cut holes in cardboard boxes and kind of pile them in different areas near each other with attached openings – gives them a maze to run through I usually throw away the boxes after a week though. I got this idea cause when I first moved to my house I obviously have too many boxes, lol.

Mason jar lids (not the sharp kind) my one bridge bun Sati loved to toss those things around.

My baby rescue bunny (I havent thought of a name yet!) is so young that he can only play for 15 minutes at ta time, then he goes to sleep lol

It’s like eat > play > sleep > poop >pee on mommy >repeat all in the course of an hour

Newspaper Jellyfish Samson runs through it, tears it apart, occcasionally I toss a couple shredded carrots on top of the cardboard so when she runs through they knock down and she gets a treat

hahaha Nova I repeated what you wrote down about what your little guy does, and my boyfriend just looked at me funny (he is still learning about bunny love) while I was just laughing hysterically.

                        I love the newspaper jellyfish!

haha that IS lucky!! My guy does ask me on the occasion if we want to add a holland lop to the family. I think he tries to hide his sensitivity but you cant hide it from the cuteness of a bun! You dont know how many videos I have on my youtube history of “bunny binky” or “bunny playtime” haha and I force him to watch.

You could always stuff a CLEAN toilet paper roll with hay berries, ect… They enclose the sides and poke holes and Voila!! A toy!! lol (:

It is an edible “toy” but mine likes when I cut the stem out of a green pepper and stuff it with greens & cut up carrot. He rather get the carrot out by picking it up and throwing or shaking it than eat the pepper first, lol. It keeps him entertained for awhile until the green pepper either breaks or all the carrot bits fell out.

I tried the normal toilet paper roll with hey…. they sat on it… and then they were done… :/ At least it was cheap. *shrugs* Haha.

Maybe they would enjoy the Jellyfish style one though? That looks more fun; to make and for the buns.

I’m not sure how great a toy it is overall but I have an empty quaker oats can/tube thing on the floor that I usually stick small pieces of carrots in. My bunny Abigail will run up to it, push it around a couple times with her nose, then crawl most of the way in (only her butt is sticking out) and then she’ll grab a piece and run off with it into another room. She’s a mini rex though so this might be slightly less effective for large rabbits..super fun to watch though!

It is! Any type of treats she can carry in her mouth though she’ll grab and carry away to some other room and run around with for a couple laps before settling on a place to eat it. It’s really funny. Of course she does this with random other things she can find/carry though..not long ago she managed to get a hold of my flashdrive and carried it off and took it into her cage and hid it under her shelf. She must’ve felt that I’ve neglected her technology needs that I didn’t know she had, haha. I also found a teaspoon in there once! If only she would find store bought toys equally entertaining…

Haha, aww. She sounds like a cutie. Domino is very simple, haha. Nava loves to play with anything though. I haven’t caught her stealing things and such from me though… but I have this tablesppon I use as a food scoop for small treats and the bunnies kept trying to take it from me yesterday. Haha.

Haha, aw. =) Your bunnies sound lovely! Abigail doesn’t like toys all that much, I did build a cardboard house the other day though, which would’ve been my next sugegstion for homemade toys if you have some cardboard boxes, time and you’re feeling creative. I initially got the idea from the diggy boxes people were making. She’ll go in there and dig around the shredded paper and keep trying to re-arrange it. Sometimes I’ll put some treats in there as well so that she finds something when she’s digging around, it also has a box with holes on the side that I stick hay in/through. It may not be fancy but she has fun with it! (posting some pictures)

Here are a few things we’ve discovered that Sunny likes, aside from his maze/tunnel/mini havens:

Here, I’ve just used a box and paper packing that came with a package:

This is from a ball that sunny chewed a side out of, so i just put some pay and pellets in there. Actually, BB store has a ball just like this that already has the hole in it:

Here, we just tied some treats onto some twine:

The phone books are a good idea, but Sunny just eats them up, he doesn’t really play with them. Toilet paper/paper towel rolls are good, and dixie cups. He likes to toss them around. Like someone else said, paper bags are fun, too:
