Anyone have experience with this? It is usually a difficult process?

Well, I have bonded 2 girls, going to bond my 2 boys soon. It’s possible, girls are usually the hardest t bond. Just takes time and patience Don’t expect a perfect bond immediately

Today was the first day I tried. I stressed them, put them in a neutral area (which went really well) but once they are any where near their “area” (I have the game room divided by a super yard) the fur starts flying. I am going to stress them again tomorrow and do neutral again. I am pretty close to just throwing in the towel and getting Smudge a girlfriend. Patience was never my strong suit.

2 days won’t cut it Keep them in the neutral area, and away from any area either has been before the sessions. You’d have to do the same thing with a girl, so don’t give up so readily. And keep the neutral area small, you want them to have to interact with each other, so maybe try a smaller room like a bathroom.

The neutral area was the bathroom. The were both sprawled out in there, like they didn’t have a care in the world. How long should I keep them in the neutral area? I have bonded 2 different bunnies before (though they were m/f) and never had this much fur fly.

Its a very long process. I’m assuming they are both neutered?
You generally need to do daily meetings in the neutral zone, then multiple daily meetings in a neutral zone, until they will eat together and groom each other in the neutral zone. This can take a week to what, 6 months? Its up to the bunnies. Then you switch pens overnight, so their scents mix, have their cages next to each other but not pushed against each other so they see each other and get used to it. Then you have some play time in a regular area, and then after a few of those supervised you can finally leave them together.
I think I got it all :/ I’m getting my buns used to each other and its not going so hot.
                  How are you stressing them?

Yes, both neutered. I took them on a 2 hour car ride in same carrier.

Whatcha talking about? My boys love each other. Once Leopold got past his psycho humping phase, they were absolutely inseparable.

You have to start slow and don’t throw in the towel after the first try. Even bonding a male and female isn’t always that easy. You just need to use the same techniques you used on your other bonds.

Sometimes bonds are easy and sometimes they are a challenge.

Are Tillie and Toby separated? If that’s the case and a bond is split, you’ll likely have to let some more time pass before attempting to bond the boys.

                              Jerseygirl~
Yes Tillie is at the rescue. We are looking for a “solo bunny home” for her. After really thinking about when the territorial behavior began, we realize it was when Toby came into the picture. She is doing at the rescue too, she has claimed a few rabbits of her own and won’t let anyone or anything “get in”. We all feel that Tillie will do best in a home being the only bun. My kids spend a lot of time in the game room and after her biting my son, even though this can be typical bunny behavior, we just had to do what was best for all involved. Trust me, this was *not* an easy decision and I have shed many tears.

Toby did accept a new girl, willingly, so he has never been alone. Piper was dumped in an apartment complex, wound up in animal shelter and found her way to the rescue. She was under weight, had an ear injury (looked like something bit her ear) and a very sad girl. I took her in. She gets along beautifully with both boys, but has been with Toby. However, the boys did not get along even before Piper came into the picture.

I did neutral time again today, which was uneventful. Toby is the aggressor, but could care less when they are in neutral territory, about Smudge. I will continue to work with them both. If, in the event, it does not work out, Smudge will get a friend and I will convert the spare bedroom into a bunny room. The downside side is that is my foster room and I won’t be able to foster again.

You may need to do more stressing if he’s being aggressive. Try a bunch of car rides, or similar.

How do you get the bunnies into the same carrier for a car ride? I imagine that if I did that they’d just kill each other!

I have bonded males – but no real advice – since they were ridiculously easy. So good luck!
