I read on the reviews for the litterbox screen that dwarf poops go right through so I know it won’t work for my rabbit Pogo’s poops. I tried hardware clothe too and it goes through that too. Any ideas??

Does he need a litter box screen? Does he dig in his litter box?

As for the poop going through, that’s okay. The purpose of the litter box screen is to keep the rabbit from digging in it.

Hardware cloth is what the litter box screens on BB are made of, so it’s the same size mesh (I have one from BB, and one I made myself from hardware cloth). It’s ok for the poops to fall through – the purpose is to keep them from digging out the litter.

Oh…He doesn’t dig in it at all. I use horse pellets. I was just hoping to help with the clean up. Thanks for the suggestion with the sewing thing but Pogo LOVES plastic. He chews that more than anything else. That’s why I had to remove the choroplast from his cage lol. Well maybe I’ll leave it as it is. He doesn’t dig at all. Thanks

Pogo: The litter screen also does simplify clean-up, like you were thinking. That’s why I bought one in the first place, as my bunny isn’t much of a digger either. She spends a lot of time in her box, though, so I like that: 1) she’s not sitting in her soiled litter, 2) that it keeps her from scattering litter as she jumps out of the box, and 3) that I can dump the poops as often as I like. I use litter that’s scoopable (Oxbow), so having a bunch of poop in it could be a bit of a pain. I’d be picking it out with my fingers a good bit, I think. Also, my bunny is sometimes inclined to munch on her litter, so the screen helps discourage that. For your reference, the holes on the screen are 2/8 of an inch.

I just dump my whole litter box out once or twice a week into the compost pile. I think it’s a lot easier then spot cleaning. I cover the poos with a little hay (either what’s fallen on the floor, or what falls out when I refill hay racks) to keep a relatively clean surface.

For me, the screens make cleaning more difficult rather than easier.

It’s a personal preference thing, I know. I’d hate to be without one.

oh his poops are much smaller than 1/4″. His are more like 1/8″.

I’d bet the litter box they have at BusyBunny would work. Smaller holes.
