My foster bunnies are poop machines! The 3 babies are growing fast and have now outgrown their second litterbox. I want to make one since I can’t find one big enough that isn’t too deep, and I thought coroplast would be an easy way to do it. I’m thinking 26″x16″x2″ should be big enough to catch everything.

What do you think? Good idea? Bad idea?

I don’t think it would work. It isn’t very sturdy and you have to tape the sides and I don’t think it will be water resistant.

I would suggest you look in the storage department of Target or Walmart or similar place for a storage tub. You will be able to get a larger size there.

I’ve also gotten a larger litter box in the cat department at Petco as well.

I would just get a couple basic litterboxes and put them next to each other. You can get a low-profile cat box that’s only about 5 inches tall.

I agree with the others. Also, don’t underestimate how much your rabbits can jump. I herd of someone using a tall storage bin as a litter box once and there bunnies jumped in and out just fine. Of coarse, there are tons of bins that are shorter then that, but it’s just an example.

Yes, an under the bed storage containers work very well for litter boxes.

Tried all of those, but these little babies don’t see the point in hopping into a box and have peed outside of it with anything taller than a kitten sized cat box and that is WAY too small. I actually watched a couple of them look inside of the box and decide to just pee right there instead of going inside -_-. I think in a couple of weeks something like that would work, but when I checked out Target everything was way too tall .

What I do with baby rabbits is cut a doorway in the litter pan so its only a few inches tall, but the rest has tall edges. I can post a picture if you are not sure what I mean.

Yeah that’s my next plan, but what did you use to cut it? I am a college student so I have only a basic toolbox. I was looking into the rubbermaid bins and just cutting it down to size. I’m still worried that with these guys if they’re not on the side where the door is they’re not going to take the time to go in there, ya know?

They are babies, it’s more likely that they just aren’t 100% litter trained than it is that they are too lazy to jump into a larger box. Get a large under the bed bin, put all the hay in the center so they can’t just stand on the outside and eat it (and therefore pee and poop on the outside). Then give them a couple more weeks to figure out what you want

I did something similar to that, but I put their food bowl in there so that they had to eat in the litter box and therefore poop. The biggest problem is that they poop when they eat and right now the box is too small for them is sit and eat at the same time without having their bums hang out . I tried the under the bed bin to see what they would do, but it takes up an enormous amount of space and the babies had to stand on their feet to look inside, haha.

I’m just gonna go pick up a cheap storage bin, a utility knife, and hack at it to make it short enough for them. Keeping the food bowl in there has decreased the mess by a LOT, and they do choose to go in there and pee as well so that’s good.

KK: I used a utility knife like you said you are going to use.

Baby bunnies are messy. If they get some of the pee and poop in there for now, that’s good. But a lot of cleaning up will fall on you. You can also lift them into the box from time to time. As they hop around in there, the scents will help them associate that with the potty place.

I think I’ve finally did it! I picked up a 30gal sterillite tub yesterday and chopped off the top so I know have a 4″ high litter box that they can all sit in at the same time and munch/poop in. Hooray for no more bums hanging off the edge . Now I don’t have to sweep up 50+ poops off the floor several times a day where they’ve been pooping around their food bowl, haha.

                                Thanks for the idea mocha!
