Sweep & I live in an apartment that is largely floored with fake wooden floorboards and tiles. She lives in my bedroom, which has the fake wooden floorboards, and slides around a lot on them. I put a towel on the ground next to where I sit to watch her, but she generally likes scooting around so fast she inevitably slides and bumps into something. I was wondering if this is a problem, both for accidental injury and for things like general ease of movement since she has little traction with her nails, and what I can do to help (aside from carpeting the place, which I can’t do…)

        Thanks!

You might look into those foam interlocking playmats, some buns chew them but if yours doesn’t then it’s great for cushioning the floor and adding traction

Ah awesome, that sounds like a great idea! I think I might even have some lying around that I can use for a test-run – after a good scrub, of course.

I’d advise against the foam mats or any kind of foam, sooner or later the bun is bound to nibble it, probably when you aren’t looking and why chance it – foam blockages are painful ways to die, I’ve heard from a rat owner whose rat ate the foam in her bedding. Much better to line the floor with seagrass mats available from BB Store. Or better still, coconut fibers mats which have the added plus of naturally brushing and cleaning the bunny’s feet, available from busybunny.com Don’t use coconut fibers doormats though, which are often chemically treated with something toxic to the bunny. The coconut fibers mats from busybunny.com are intended forr small animals and perfectly safe to chew, although it’s doubtful they will, as are the seagrass mats.

Well, lining the floor would turn my bedroom into more of a mess than it already is, but I will see if I can find some coconut fibre mats to put down in a few places. Thanks for the tip!

My pleasure – just beware of doormat sized mats with coconut fiber surfaces. I know they’re tempting to use because they cover larger areas but they’re often treated with chemicals that are a no-no for bunnies to nibble. The coconut fibers mats from busybunny.com have attractive designs and can be darned together with sisal string (safe to bunny chewing) to make a larger covering. Great traction!

Well, I won’t be buying online since I am living in China and international postage would kill me, but I’ll definitely find something similar. And don’t worry, I’ll be careful! I don’t want to poison my bunny

I know you don’t, none of us do. I forgot you live in China. I just wanted to pass on what I heard about foam. I myself learned the hard way although not as hard as it could have been. i had been lining the cage for my first bunny years ago with exercise mats made of foam cut to size because I too thought great traction and soft on the bunny’s feet. Down the road though one day I found the mat had enormous holes chewed out of it and I can’t imagine my bunny didn’t ingest some of it, if not all as there wasn’t much shreds lying around. I was lucky she didn’t develop an intestinal blockage – so painful and dreaded among bunny owners. She didn’t but I’ll never chance that again. It can be as important to know what not to give a bunny as what to give it. I love your little blue Sweep. If you lived any closer to San Francisco CA in the USA, I’d sweep her off her feet into a taxi and make a fast getaway! LOL I hope you post lots more pics of her!

I hope to get many more photos that are not blurry! I’m trying for a video but every time I turn it on she just goes really still… typical! Thanks again for the advice. You are all helping to make little Sweep’s life better!

A bunny as cute as yours would be sweet to look at even standing still, so don’t worry about that!

I got a 5×7 rug for $20 to put over my slippery floor in my room and the bunnies LOVE it!
