One of the WORST molts is a bunny’s very first one. I don’t know why, but that seems to be normal. After that a bunny will have several molts per year (typically four) with two of the being heavier. I seem to only really notice two — maybe because they are heavy.
We are out of the hairbuster at the moment and that does work well. I have also used the furminator and it does a good job, but just be careful as you can overgroom with that one. Many people will think it’s working great because it continues to take out so much fur, but it can really take out more than it should of the undercoat — We over furminated our cat one time! It’s easy to do. So I would say it is a good option…just give it a rest after you get quite a bit of hair and double check that you are not thinning out the hair so much that it becomes some transparent.
Note– is not uncommon for clumps of hair to come out during a heavy molt and leave bald spots. I am just talking about a general thinning of the the undercoat that you can see the skin through — that is what can happen with the furminator if you brush too much.
