After we got back from the vet yesterday, we let Jack have the run of the house for a little. I thought maybe it would be okay to have both boys in the same room for a bit – just to see how it goes. I got together their salads, let Harvey out, and gave them both supper in the living room. Thinking they could maybe eat together and they could get aquainted. They each had about two bites when Harvey ran happily over to Jack. Jack LUNGED at harvey, and I was able to pick Harvey up before anything serious happened, but Jack still managed to get a pretty big chunk of Harvey’s fur. We looked him over carefully, no damage done, and both went back to their cages. This wasn’t the first time they have seen each other, but it was their first face to face meeting, and I’m worried it may have left a really bad impression on them. Harvey seemed so sad – he binkied 3 feet in the air the first time he saw Jack. I think he was just happy to see another of his kind.
They are both scheduled to be neutered Nov. 10, and after they’ve healed up I want to start bonding them. Did I make a huge mistake in trying to introduce them too soon? Is this going to start us off on the wrong foot? I’ve decided to continue keeping them separated until they are both healed up, but what do you guys think about all of this? I’m already feeling a bit discouraged, and I’m kind of crushed seeing Harvey feeling so rejected.
