My neighbor said my rabbit is too fat because I always feed her. I think he has no idea that female rabbits have “double chins” or dew laps. He is clearly not a veterinarian nor an animal worker.
Me: Uhm, I don’t think so. I give her pellets twice a day, I think that’s quite enough for her size. (I found his statement weird since I only give her 4 tbsp of pellets per day — so that’s 2tbsp in the morning, 2tbsp in the evening.)
Old guy: You should only feed them in the morning! I know how to take care of rabbits, I have one see… (he pointed to his backyard, I saw a white rabbit looking all balled up in a cage that looked like it was made for pet birds. I wanted to give him a lesson on rabbit housing!
)
Old guy: Give it a bowl full of pellet and a carrot every morning! You’re always feeding that rabbit every few hours. (looking very adamant)
Me: I’m giving her freshly cut grass… It’s part of their diet…
Old guy is now giving me a smirk…
Me: (I look at Charcoal doing binkies in the garden, and looking at his caged rabbit) Thank you for your advice… I think me and my rabbit are doing just fine.
I swear I wanted to talk back and tell off that guy, but I’m a very polite when it comes to old people.
Sorry, I know the post is a bit off, but I got so irked by that nosy neighbor who makes it a point to tell you how to care for your rabbit while his is caged up looking like a puffed stress ball.
This is Charcoal cooling down after an hour of running about the garden. She usually stays under the plants, but it’s a bit muddy. See her paws, she’s been digging. She flopped in a cool shaded corner in between potted plants. I left her there to get a camera… when she saw me point it at her she got up a bit because I was taking her picture.

Seriously, does she look fat?
