I have a quesion on the NIC cages you make out of the cubes.  How come you have to use the cable ties?.  Why cant you use the things that come with it to put it together?  Is it because I bunny will chew on it?  Also can you use black.  I found 40 pieces on Craigs list for $15!!  Thanks Mindy

Colour doesn’t matter. : ) Sounds like you got a bargain. Do check the grids have the smaller squares per grid though. It’s should be 1&1/2 inch squares, 9 across. Some types come with wider squares in the grid and rabbits can fit their heads through.

Zip ties (or wire clips) add stability. Some people have used both the connectors and the zipties together. Zipties also probably close gaps that a rabbit can force open causing the grids to come out of the connectors. Crafty little creatures that they are. There’s a site that goes into condos a bit more. http://www.rabbitcondo.com

Sometimes the connectors fit snugly but sometimes they don’t! In the same package I’ve had some connectors that were so tight I could barely get them in place, and others that just fell off. I assume this is due to slight variations in the grid corners themselves. The zipties make it nearly impossible to come apart. We bought a ridiculous amount at Home Depot for relatively cheap, there were probably 1000 ties in the bag. Get the larger ties, they’re maybe 3 or 4 mm wide. The tiny ones are easy for a bun to chew off.

The connectors are nice if you want more stability for the wall.  You can use the connector and then also criss-cross a couple zipties for extra strength.

Great price on the grids BTW!

The connectors with the grids that I bought were a pain in the behind to stay put haha Zip ties are easier and cheaper. No problems here

On Porky’s I used the connector that came with the grids to basically put the layout together, but there were places that they work/fit.  For example, the ramps were placed at a 20-30ish degree angle, but the conectors only work for 45 degrees or straight angles.   Doors need to open and close, so the connectors don’t work for that.

Also, the ties provide extra security.  When bunny is hopping around and digging and what not, the condo can shake quite a lot, the ties keep the grids securly in the connectors.
