I’ve been looking around for a new/used car to trade in.  I currently drive a big car and I really don’t need it. Anyway, went to a dealership with my daughter on Labor day and spent over 3 hours there.  Really bad experience.  Last weekend, I found another dealership with almost the same car, better price and way better mileage.  Went to test drive the car (the guy even let us drive it without him with us).  Really good experience, in and out in about 45 minutes.  Thought about it and wanted it.  I spent the week with my bank, with insurance, with the car guy, filling out papers etc… and finally decided on a fair price for the car. Wednesday we (the car guy and I) made an appointment to meet Friday morning. Perfect for both of us since I was off and he was just getting back into town.

Well, this morning, I dropped off my daughter at school, washed my car inside and out, emptied the car and was ready for our 9am appt.  I called him and he was still out of town and said he’d be back by 3pm.  Well, there goes the surprise for my daughter.  I had it all planned out to be able to pick her up in the new car.  Anyway, 2:45p comes along and no call from him.  I ended up calling and guess what? He said the CAR WAS SOLD!!!

WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE THESE DAYS?!!?! UGHHHH SOOOO UPSET!!!

I understand some people don’t really care at all. It isn’t fair.

            WHAT???

Ok First *HUGS* and more *HUGS* -that is just awful!!!

And second-I don’t think your allowed to do that; once an offer is accepted on something (be it house, car etc)-you are not allowed to hear or entertain other offers. Yikes-I don’t know how far you want to take it but US/Canada laws are similar and I know that to be true, he is very much on the wrong side of the law…my aunt and uncle are lawyers (Canadian of course)-do you want me to ask what they’d suggest you do?? (Sorry I’m a terrible person to vent to, I try to fix…but if I can help? just pm me)

Kokaneeandkahlua: thank you. I think you’re right but I didn’t sign any papers with them- it was all verbal but agreed. He said it wasn’t “his fault” and he did put a sign on the car letting the others know it was sold, but since he was out of town, they just removed the sign and sold it?! I know, I know, it sounds like total BS!

I guess everything happens for a reason, but it’s the principal of it all! Plus this car was such a great deal and mileage!!

I’m sorry. Buying cars through those places is not fun. I really dislike the way car sales people operate. Sorry to anyone who does this for a living, just a generalisation on my part. They are some that give all a bad name I guess. I was able to by my car thru a private sale and had my Dad along who is mechanically minded but also savvy on getting the best deal. Thank goodness, else I would have been at a loss.

Be aware, this guy might try “make it up to you”. You know, by offering a similar car etc? I would avoid dealing with him again.

I hope you have better luck next time you go looking.

Unfortunately dealers are shady – last time I was with people who purchased from a dealer they made an agreement to buy from the salesman they knew personally, had everything worked out with him, then another salesman on their friends day off calls up and says they need to sign a paper just so that the car will be held, promised up and down that the other guy would still get the sell and they weren’t entering into a binding agreement except that a small deposit would hold the car until they could sign the real papers. Turns out they signed papers that finalized the sale for the other salesman, even though he promised that was not what they were signing. And yes legally you have to tell someone what they are signing, but they didn’t want to go to court for it.

In other words – you can’t trust a dealerships word, even if you trust the singular salesman you are working with, the rest are going to be shady people trying to trick you and make a buck. Probably another guy there saw it was reserved for him, he wanted to get the commission instead, so showed it off and ignored the reserved sign.

Sorry your surprised for your daughter was ruined hope you find an even better car because of it
