  I was doing Thumper’s daily brush today (he’s molting) and somehow I ended up cutting him really bad I’ve always used this brush on Penelope and have never had any problems, the tips aren’t sharp, they are rounded off. But I got him pretty good and I feel so bad! Luckily, my normal vet office was open for another 25 minutes so I called them, told them I was headed over and to not close up shop yet. I was worried he was going to need stiches, but once they got his fur shaved off, it didn’t look quite as deep as I had orginally thought (still looks SUPER bad though) and it was decided he didn’t need stiches. They gave me some Silvadene cream to put on twice a day and told me that if there was any sign of swelling, redness, or if he stopped eating or drinking to bring him in immediately. Has anyone ever used this? I think it’s pretty similar to the stuff I’ve used on me before, but I was just wondering what others have experience with it with their buns.
  
  They went ahead a did a routine checkup on him also while he was there. I had him an appointment for tomorrow because his nose is runny, but they went ahead and gave him some Baytril. He also has earmites and he’s underweight They treated him for the earmites and I’ll be upping his pellets for a while (he’ll love that!). I just feel so bad! I’ve barely had him a week but I feel like I should have noticed his earmites! Poor thing was probably miserable!
  
  I really just want to sit back in his room with him and hold him! Although I won’t do this because he is very upset right now and obviously wants some time to himself. I feel so guilty!

  Accidents happen so try not to be too upset – what is Thumpers breed? Some have more sensitive skin than others, so you have to use special brushes etc. You got him vet care, which is what matters! ((((HEALING VIBES)))) to Thumper!

  Love Silvadene – this stuff is amazing. I’ve used it numerous times on my rabbits – it was originally meant for burn victims.
  
  Hugs to you. You didn’t mean to hurt him, some rabbits are just more delicate than others. It sounds like it was meant to be that you took him in and that they did a thorough checkup.
  
  I would just let him relax, he needs to recoup after the stress at the vets.

  Awhh I’m sorry ): It’s good that the vet caught the ear mites and him being underweight. Hope he’s feeling better soon (: and good news is they make soft brushes specifically for sensitive rabbits like yours

  Accidents happen and you shouldn’t feel bad. I once had a brush that poked me and drew blood so I got rid of it and wouldn’t use it on my buns. I now use a link roller or a different brush. I have never had this happen to me.

  It happens so don’t feel bad!! Look at it this way, he got his mite treated a day early and extra pellets to make him feel better

  Aww, that’s sad. I stepped on Rosy once and she did that high-pitch squeal thing. I just wanted to hold her and cry. Malp is right, at least you got him treated earlier.

  It looks a lot better today now that the swelling has gone down. I’m glad, because yesterday I couldn’t even look at it without crying Which made it very hard to put the medicine on. He doesn’t seem to act like it’s bothering him, although I’m sure it is. I’m making sure to keep his litterbox as clean as possible to prevent infection (the cut is right above his tail). Any others suggestions to how I can make sure it doesn’t get infected?

  I think your doing fine, clean litter box and the cream should work like a charm

  You poor thing! That is very scary when you have a brand new bunny for just a week, and you did a wonderful job of getting him cared for right away. It may have been a good thing too, in that he was seen even sooner and began treatment for his other conditions. He is already showing improvement, and you will have a healthier bunny much sooner. Some pet stores sell very soft bunny brushes that you can try.
  
  Meanwhile, a little treat, like a banana slice, can go a long way in getting you back into his good graces.

  Aw, bless you. I know it feels terrible when you hurt your bun by accident, especially since most of the time they don’t make any noise and just give you a hurt look.
  
  I dropped Monty once when he was little (he never liked being picked up) and felt awful. You immediate reaction is “oh my god, I broke my bunny!”.
  
  The main thing is you took him to a vet and got him looked at. A lot of pet owners out there might not do that and would just think it’ll heal on it’s own. You were very responsible and I’m sure he’ll forgive you soon enough, especially after a few treats
  
  Also, if he isn’t acting like it’s bothering him, it really probably isn’t. Now it’s healed a bit it’s unlikely that it hurts (unless he gets a knock there or something). Don’t worry too much, just keep the area clean and he’ll look after himself.
