        This is just yikes

So I’ve been able to buy wsp at home depot and walmart in the past, just by stumbling on them. But only a few times and then I can’t find them. Ask the clerk and they take you to look at wooden pallettes and charcoal briquettes (which neither are wood nor for stoves nor pellets ).

Recently fed up with the price I’m paying at the pet store for the same but with a cat picture on the front, I decided I was going to get me some wsp.

I went to the big box home store, they told me they’d never carried them. I challenged that yes I’d bought them there. So then they tell me ‘special order only’-so then I said, ok special order them. Then I stood around for 1/2 an hour while they tried to figure out what they were (Brilliant that they can tell me they don’t carry them and then they are only special order but actually don’t know what I’m talking about)-they never figure it out and I mumbled choice words all the way home.

This weekend darn it I was going to get me some. I took to the internet so I could have a product code when I asked. Another big box store I look up  carries them it says. I phone, yes they have them (too good to be true??) -so I said (since anytime I ask a clerk for these they look at me like I just landed in a spaceship) where do I find them. He instructs me to ask at the till and they have them outside.

I do this-they are confused. 20 minutes later, it’s figured, I pay and drive around back to pick them up. Guy back there says they don’t have any. I think he could read my expression and he said he would look anyways they had them.

I’m now 8 bags of wsp richer and I REALLY hope now that I have a hookup it’s easier next time lol

Anyone has this issue? Or is it just me?

Geesh, what a fiasco ! I can buy them at Tractor Supply (pine only) but I am looking forward to winter so I can get oak pellets.

Depot and Wally’s are so DUUUUUHHHHH! @_@ I need a dollar for every time they’ve messed up something simple. I could retire to the Bahamas…where the bunnies would have lovely beach sand to wee in.
I could probably take the truck 30 miles to North Pole and come back with a trunkful,…if they’re still making them. Seeing as the EPA is trying to put the kibosh on our woodstoves up here still. We’re not certain yet how we’ll be ‘allowed’ to heat our homes in the near future. ~_~
Sorry to hear you got such a run around, K&K

I had issues the first time I went looking for them. You go to a store and they just say, “Nope, don’t have them.” No other attempt to assist me in finding them. I work in retail (and I’m not stupid), so I KNOW they have a little computer screen where they can type in their little code to tell me if any of the next closest 100 stores have them. But the trick is getting them to give darn to go the extra step. I finally went to our local Lowe’s and said, “I need to find these. It is urgent. I will DRIVE if necessary.” The beauty of living where I do is that altho I’m in a heavily populated suburb of Cleveland, if I drive 20-30 minutes in any direction (except up… that’s Lake Erie), I am in the boonies. Turns out the Lowe’s that’s only 20 minutes “into the country” carries them seasonally. So ever since then, every winter we make the short trip and buy 7-8 bags.

I am like Beka in that I’ve worked retail so I have little tolerance when I go shopping. lol

I have never been able to find those where I live. Although I’ve never looked too hard. I’ve pretty much figured that they wouldn’t know what I was talking about. Then I wasn’t sure exactly what I should look for.

I’m glad you were finally able to get them!

Wow, no, the people at Lowes/Home Depot and those types of stores are usually annoyingly attentive. But, I use my mothers trick on hardware stores and it always gets me good service – without it I usually get ignored and brushed off and good luck finding anything.

Some retail stores do not have their stores linked together on inventory, so it’s not always an option. Most the stores around me have no linked inventory so they have to call whenever they want to check if another store has it, but all the people here have always offered to call and check. But I live in a smaller town. My boyfriend grew up around Cleveland and since it’s so large customer service was if someone asks, do it but don’t go out of your way. He mentioned that he could get a product cheaper at wal-mart than at a local store as a reason to not buy the product he was asking about and the store looked up new places to find it, found one that was cheaper and called him at work (it’s the only factory in town, so everyone knows it) to let him know they could offer him a better deal. He was shocked. lol

Glad you found them. But what a pain!

                    Sounds about right :~)

I cannot get woodstove pellets anywhere where I live because woodstoves are not prevalent in my area because it generally does not get cold enough to even bother having one.

Luckily I can get some local horse stall pellets that work perfect for me.

Wow, I’m surprised it’s so hard for you to find them considering you live in the Great White North! Around here there are signs advertising them even in August – usually the price listed is by the ton (they look at me funny when I ask for only 7 bags).

Do you guys have feed stores? The feed stores near me tend to advertise them (they even have a bunch right up by the cash registers so you can pick out which kind you want) while I can’t say I’ve seen them in Home Depot (I saw a sign advertising them, but have never physically seen them in the store).

Glad you found some! Time to stock pile them so you don’t have to go through the hassle for a while.

Ditto the horse stall pellets, you might have better luck finding them.

Woody Pet is Canadian based does pet litter and horse stall bedding. I’ve used that brand before and found them good. I think they’re pine based.

I went to the place that I currently work (I didn’t work there last year) and saw that there was an entire pallet full of WSP. I lucked out, I guess.

I bought 5 bags and imagine the fun bringing those up the stairs to a 3rd floor apartment.. hmmm

I also use the horse stall pellets (oak) and they’ve worked well for me

I hate when I go into a store and ask for something and they’re like ‘Oh, we don’t carry those.’ I’m like YES YOU DO! I bought them last month!!! LOL

My sisters boyfriend works at Tractor Supply Co, so I guess I just got lucky in the bedding department.

I would think there would be tons of feed stores around your area K&K. I buy Pinnacle Pine Horse Stall Bedding, don’t know if they would have the same brand, but I love them! and I only pay $4 for a 40lb bag!

I’m suprised I’m not the only one with these issues!!   I wondered if you might all call them something else and I was using a dated term or something, because I swear they look at me like a martian when I ask for them While I was griping to Dave (while waiting and waiting for them to find them for me) I was all ‘everyone on my forum gets wsp without issues!’ lol I spoke too soon.

There are definiely feed stores here, I regularly frequent a fantasic one but I didn’t think they had horse bedding…. They might though …yeesh I should ask!! I’ll definitely be jumping for joy if they do. They are literally four blocks from where I work and though the staff aren’t that friendly and helpful, they carry everything-it would be my one stop if I didn’t have an aquarium

I bought 5 bags and imagine the fun bringing those up the stairs to a 3rd floor apartment.. hmmm

I can!! The only other times I’ve found wsp I lived in a third floor walk up…when I groan about bringing in groceries I just look back on those days -this was sooo me back then-
